FOOD, Friends, Uncategorized LORD NELSON 27 January 2008

I’ve got one HECK of a backlog in photos.. since I’ve been so awol on LJ lately. Lunches, dinners, parties, shopping, cooking, baking, etc all went on in the past 3 weeks.. but I’ve been a bit lazy and didn’t take photos of most of them. Still, there’s a bunch that I did take photos of, I just have to get round to uploading it all, etc!

For now, I’ve just got one, and it’s stolen off .. whom Chris and I met up for dinner at Lord Nelson with after work the other day, for their lovely Beef Pie with Mushy Peas and Mash for $5(!!) special. Love it! It’s one of my favourite pubs – warm and friendly, and always bustling with people. Their $5 pie night is by far the star attraction – the pie is delicious with decent chunks of beef, and the mash is rich and creamy. No comments on the mushy peas since I’m not a fan of them anyway! The dish goes perfectly with one of their homebrewed beers – specifically my favourite, the Quayle Ale, a light, airy bear. Mmmmm delish!

Girls with their pies and beers
(kudos to her Photoshop skills ‘fixing’ my bunged eye!)

Dad also sent me a wonderful website – a sand artist. She is amazing – her artwork is sublime and to think she just uses sand?!

Oh, and I watched a Chinese movie for the first time the other night on SBS. It had subtitles, granted, but I reckon I understood most of the language! The movie’s called In The Mood For Love and has Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung in it. One of the better movies I’ve ever seen and it is so romantic yet not cheesy/chick-flick. It’s AWESOME. The photography is amazing and I’ve never watched a movie quite like this one before. Fantastic.

Tons more posts/pics to come…… eventually.

oh wong-kar wai movies, yay! it’s kind of trilogy of sorts, the one before it is “days of being wild” and the one after it is “2046” (which was a little weird because it involved sci-fi)… πŸ˜€

Aw thanks! I’ve done a ton of eating out with friends and such but haven’t really taken pics.. I lost interest quite a bit over the past few wks that I’ve been sick :X

yeap In The Mood For Love is such a beautiful movie…i do so love Wong Kar Wai’s movies in general! just picked up his newest one, entitled My Blueberry Nights and starring Norah Jones…can’t wait to pop it into my DVD some time this week.

and i’m glad to hear your eye grossness is all cleared up! obviously i’m very backlogged in my LJ entry-reading… πŸ˜›

I reckon it was the cinematographer that was the most brilliant.. i want to watch more of his work now πŸ˜€

The eyes are healing but vision still ain’t that great :X

funny we just got in the Mood for Love DVD recently and watched it for the first time. I loved all Maggie’s ‘qipaos’! So elegant and feminine. Hoping to get Lust, Caution too coz I’ve heard it’s good as well.

Mmmm, I had a fish/mussel pie, mash and chips today at Bungalow 8, looking at your pie made me feel a tad tempted but also a tad more full! Yeah, I ate too much again!

I had a mega pig-out day too.. cos we went out with various groups of friends for breakfast, lunch and also dinner! eeeeek! Our NY resolutions are going down the crapper πŸ˜›

I found In The Mod For Love boring! Great cinematography but it was sooooo slow…Try Chungking Express by the same director, I much prefer that. We’ve got Lust, Caution if you’re interested, also starring Tony Leung.
