Hey Bev, just ignore these mindless people. I’m sure you wouldn’t do a thing like that π
Hey Bev, just ignore these mindless people. I’m sure you wouldn’t do a thing like that π
hey Bev! that sounds plain awful! im sorry to hear abt this! i’d be fuming mad too if i were u! im sure this whole thing will blow over soon. don’t let it affect u pls. not worth it getting mad over such nasty people!
*hugs*
I’m not really mad at the trolls that try to start trouble.. I’m only mad at the people who start *believing* them. The whole situation is so stupid, I can’t believe that trying to help people out can be turned into something like this, and I can’t believe that normal people actually start believing it.. Urk. I need to concentrate on my offline life and friends more, I think. It’s too embarassing to see adult women act like 10 year olds :T
Anyway! How are you and G doing??
yeah i agree with U about offline friends :)…tho for me, the internet is a good way to keep in touch with friends not in SG π
G and I still email and stuff..but it’s bad…we’re not really going anywhere. sigh. guess have to wait till he comes home…so at the moment, hav no choice but to let things be…at least we still keep in touch π
Oh definitely.. my friends are all over the world ‘cos I went to an International school in Singapore, so I love it to keep in touch. And I’ve also made so many online friends that are awesome π But I guess I should be more careful and not assume that everyone I meet online is going to be nice. I get too trusting I guess..!
Oh do’nt hold his non-contact against him! Most guys are like that.. they may love the girl with all their heart, but writing doesn’t come naturally to them, esp when they have to show emotions (like love) in their emails π When will he be back?
G will be back late November…prob abt the same time I finish my exams π
Beverly, TIME OUT. Yes time out, TAKE some TIME OUT from MUA, you don’t need to deal with such pettiness in your life. I hate to say this about MUA but “intelligence,” let alone tolerance towards difference, independent thinking, and open-mindedness, is not a word that springs to my mind when asked to describe many of the posters on MUA.
I know you were trying to help them out and that is all cool but DON’T FORGET that a lot of the women on MUA have *nothing better to do* in their lives but sit in front of the computer screen and pass narrow judgement on the lives of others in that community. Ever noticed how easily people jump on the lemming bandwagon? Unfortunately this seems to be the case a lot of the time in the off-topic forum, where one nasty comment about someone snowballs and continues its vicious life-cycle unless proven otherwise. Post about ANYTHING, factual or otherwise, and SOMEONE’s always got something to say to back it up, mostly “me too!”
Perhaps it was not a wise choice to tell them about your involvement with Photoforum. But then again, maybe we don’t truly understand the dynamics of MUA. Helping others out is a great and admirable thing, but we want also to be careful to seek out situations where help WILL be appreciated, ie. finding a community whose members who, er, have their heads crewed on tight? I’m not saying this to be derogatory about the members of MUA — I have met many nice people there, but the nature of internet discussion groups and forum is such that meanness and bitchiness is magnisified, and plays out much more than it does in real life, where people are able to conceal these traits better, and also where such expressions of hate are less acceptable when meeting someone face to face. Having participated in a bunch of online communities and witnessing their degeneration into “troll-centrals,” I realize that negativity and bitchiness is probably inextricable from online communities, hence my decision to never reveal much about my personal life, or get too personally involved with other members, and to filter out what sorts of off-topic information and feedback ARE relevant to my happiness and well-being, and what sorts are detrimental and irrelevant.
Sorry about the long post, but I hope it helped anyway. Again, do think about taking a brief hiatus from posting on MUA, or maybe just the off-topic forum, and re-evaluate what kind of relationships, contributions and participation practices you want to establish with the forum.
Feel better and cheer up, it’s going to be fine!

Rachel
You’re so right, you know? While 99% of the ladies on MUA are really awesome people and I’ve made so many friends there (hey, I found you there after 10 years!), the handful that are petty and want to create trouble really ruin the entire place. I can’t understand why grown women would resort to such things, surely they must have better and more fun things to do than to pick on a 20 yr old kid and make up all sorts of stories about her? And they don’t even dare to do it under their real usernames :T
But hey, it makes me appreciate off-line relationships and life SO much more – where people are mature, wonderful, and I don’t get silly women trying to accuse me of random things. Makes me kinda adore the way life is offline π I wish there was a way to get rid of negativity on MUA though, no one needs it and it just gets everyone suspicious. I talked to Elky previously about the people that try to stir up trouble – but it’s hard for him to control it because even if he bans them, they can always just re-register another name. And it’s hard to ban by IP, because if that person is from AOL.com, it’s not feasible to ban that entire ISP!

Aww.. I know I shouldn’t let it annoy me ‘cos it isn’t worth it, but it’s really upsetting to have trolls try and get people to believe I’m part of a site like that and was the one that stole everyone’s pics :T
I actually got pages saying “westie” was Rachel – and she has a reputation for hating anyone who isn’t a white American. Apparently she was the one that uploaded all our pics, and is now trying to “frame” me and stir trouble. No idea how true that is.. but I”m going to ask Callan/Gazy if they have IPs of the people that posted our pics to see if it’s true..
I NEED THOSE MINI BUTTERS!!! I have the Nut mini and used it up, but I want to try the others out. The Melonseed I have is so big and bulky too π Any idea if they’re sold anywhere at all, or if they’re coming back? Gah, I wish I knew about this earlier..
u just reminded me about those – there are still some sets lying around, i just ran down to tbs near my office and bought a set, it’s $29.90 and there are FOUR, each 50g – shea, olive, nut, butter. a big body butter is 200g and $25 or so each so it’s like $5 more for the variety in the mini tubs
oh wait, i think the price difference is coz body butters cost a couple of dollars more than others if i’m not wrong
oooooh they are *so* tempting. No mini melonseed though? I hope they’ll be out end of the year when I’m back in SG, I”m so addicted to them π

it only takes some to give all a bad name.
hey bev, juz ignore them; there’ve been lots of trolls and nasty posts on MUA these couple of weeks, it’s getting too touchy for non-makeup talk imo
I know it’s dumb to let it get to me.. but it’s just so frustrating that people jump to conclusions and just attack me for the heck of it! Like I’m a scapegoat or something.. Furthermore, most of the people who did that used troll accounts, you’d think they’ll have the guts to use their real usernames when trying to incrimminate me :T And the worst is when people start believing it.. it scares me because I don’t want people to think I’m this weird girl who checks out other girls’ pics and uploads them to be commented on by perverts.. urgh.
PS. is the TBS new range just makeup, or body care too? I love their body butter in Melonseed :)~
