Asagao
Met Centre
Sydney, NSW 2000
Asagao is the best Japanese chain restaurant in Sydney, without a doubt. But what I’ve noticed is that not all Asagaos are the same.. most of them are in fact pretty average. But the Asagao in the city (Met Centre) is different. Completely different. The menu is different and the quality and taste of the food is different. It’s much better! Always packed at lunchtime with the business crowd, it’s no secret that it’s the hot spot for great Japanese food.
We had lunch there and Mum and Dad were really impressed with how fresh everything was – no nasty almost-hardered sushi here! Everything’s really tasty and fine quality, and at a great price too. The service is really lovely and food comes quickly, or you can pick from the pre-made food if you want an instant meal. The only negative part of today’s experience was this tacky couple sitting near us that were kissing.. no.. trying to each each other’s heads off. I’m not talking a quick smooch, it was like a I’m-going-to-swallow-you-whole-and-taste-your-insides kinda smooch. And not just one. They went on.. and on… and on… for about half an hour!! And the ENTIRE time, the business crowd was sitting around them trying VERY HARD to eat without throwing up. I wouldn’t consider myself a prude, but really, GET A ROOM!!! Ugh!!
Okay. Anyway. Back to the food. It really was super, but all of us kinda lost our appetite watching tacky I-think-I’m-in-a-porno-flick couple.. but we still agreed Asagao has great food. Which actually means their food is actually INCREDIBLY good, for us to have said that despite our view/entertainment π
Asagao
Gyoza (aka dumpling)
They make the best gyozas – fat, juicy, tasty.
Really fresh sushi rolls with brown rice – healthy!
This was called Inari-something.. have no idea what it was. It was kinda soft on the inside?
Sushi looking so perfect it looked fake
Seafood Ramen. Absolutely fantabulous!
Chicken Katsu Curry Bento Box
oh really?? because the asagao on pitt st is terrible IMHO, and everytime i walk past it, i had to resist the urge to dry-wretch. π i haven’t tried any other asagao’s though.
Yeah the Asagaos are all different!

Degustation? You going Mino or something similar? As for the couple, you should have taken a photo or video and posted it on YouTube. That might be a future deterrent! Grin!
Going to Rise π I like Mino too though! But I’ve only had a la carte there and not degustation..
Hehe I wanted to take a pic/video but they were RIGHT NEXT to me so i was scared they might hit me or something;)
Pics of mino? I got some. Grin. Of the kaiseki (degustation). Took a before and after look on the dessert too! Grin!
haha are you doing the Japanese food Marathon recently?? seems like you have a few Japanese food posts within these few days! π
I love Japanese food! π
Hehe good point! I do love Jap food π And tonight is degustation with Jap food again.. oops ~!
Ha, you just reminded me of a couple who were kissing in the lift at work yesterday… and the lift was full! I nearly laughed out loud watching my friend’s expression as she realised what they were doing – she literally did a double-take π But seriously, at work? It shouldn’t be allowed, and definitely not in the lift.
Some people have no shame or tact! I think kissing in public is okay, but not having sex in public (they couple really looked like they were)
my mouth is hanging open right this minute…
I’m always very very impressed with Asagao. And their prices are pretty reasonable too!
*sigh*…I could really go for some sushi!
Super fresh sushi is just so divine.. I’ve had sushi where it was hardened at the edges cos it was made like 24 hours ago. gross!

I want the Inari-something =)
HEhe do you know what it is?? It was some soft squishy thing (maybe tofu?) in tempura batter and bright green. Weird!
I know they will do good things with it. And I am asking you all to help me. How does this work. At 4pm on Saturday the 5th July, I will be dressed up and βDoing The Karen Chengβ in a big mirror somewhere in Singapore, in a public place.
Yikes, I get all squirmy at such public displays. It’s just SO wierd! :X
Ya! And it wasn’t even a normal smooch/makeout people do in public.. it was like watching a porn show for 30 mins :-O
So Iβm just gonna dye my all my hair back to its original color and just leave it alone. I think Iβve decided Iβm way too low maintenance for things like highlights.

ROFL at the tacky couple!
My mouth is watering ooking at those pics, especially the Gyoza, crap, I LOVE Gyoza!!! Yep, and I want that Seafood Ramen and Chicken Katsu too. *drool*
I’m normally just ‘ok’ to gyoza.. as in, I don’t go nuts over it. But this one? DEFINITELY!! It’s so fat and juicy and tasty :)~~~

Ooh my husband and I were just talking about going to Asagao when we’re in Sydney. We’ve only eaten at the one on Pitt Street though. He liked the extra sweet chicken teriyaki they do. π Will have to check out this one since you’ve praised it so highly! π
Strangely all the Asagaos around seem to have diff menus and diff quality. This one in the Met Centre’s def the best.. it’s near Wynyard Station! π
