FOOD, Food reviews, Food reviews - Singapore FOOD REVIEW: Stirling Highway @ Ridgewood Close 10 September 2014

There’s a little nest of eateries in the Ridgewood Close area, just behind Ulu Pandan. My favourite is a little cafe at the corner, called Stirling Highway.

The cafe is comfortable and casual, the staff are friendly and easy going, and it feels like my ‘home away from home’. Sit there for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat, and simply chill out. No one rushes you to pay and leave, like many cafes do around here. Love their style.

The decor is simple but comfortable. There is a display cabinet down the front showcasing their sweets of the day. On the counter itself is an assortment of artisanal teas – they are just as into tea as they are coffee!

The Prawn Pesto ($16.00) with sauteed prawns tossed in a homemade basil spinach pesto is delicious. The pesto is potent, the cherry tomatoes bursting with sweetness, and the prawns charred just-so. Mmm.

Stirling Highway are famous for their Pulled Pork Pancakes ($14.00). It’s pulled pork in between three layers of buttermilk pancakes with Jack Daniel’s infused maple syrup. Sounds kind of…. WEIRD? I thought so! But oooo it’s good. The pancakes are fluffy and moist, and the pulled pork adds a kick of saltiness to offset the sweetness of the pancakes and syrup. There is a definite Jack Daniel’s flavour in the syrup, but adding the alcohol in does make the syrup rather runny. Not an issue with me, but just something to note.

Another pic of those luscious pancakes..

Coffee is well-balanced, with a beautiful froth. Absolutely lovely.

I’d go back to Stirling Highway for sure. And have done so many times since!
