La Facon de Shimizu (aka “the way of the Shimizu”) is a little gem of a restaurant tucked away in the residential area of Willoughby, a mere 5 mins drive from where I live. So tucked away that none of us had heard about it, let alone been in the area. Word someone filtered down to me that this was an awesome restaurant, so Chris and I went a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it so much that I decided that would be where I’d have my birthday dinner. I only wanted to celebrate my (belated) birthday back in Australia with a dinner.. because there’s just TOO much going on right now to even think about a proper party. Plus, I wanted something really initimate with my closest and favourite friends – and that was exactly the way it turned out – to my delight 🙂
Technically a French & Japanese restaurant, the cuisine definitely leans towards the French or Western side, with a slight Asian influence. It’s a tiny, cozy place, with friendly service despite our incredibly loud-mouthedness in the small restaurant (probably to the dismay of other diners there hoping to have a romantic date – sorry!!). The most delightful part is the FREE corkage and FREE cakeage. Considering we each had 3 different glasses of wine, it was excellent and much appreciated!
The only problem with their menu is that everything looks too good. We ummmmed and ahhhhed for ABSOLUTE AGES, with all of us going round and round in circles debating what we would settle on 😉 These life-changing decisions are very hard, you know! Finally, we settled on a different dish each, so we could sample from everyone’s dish and try everything out – or maybe that was just me, haha!
The food was impressive as usual – very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity. A lovely, lovely evening with fantastic friends, and what an awesome way to celebrate my birthday! I LOVE YOU GUYS, xoxo
