I’m a huge fan of Firehouse Hotel. It’s just over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and is a great pub/restaurant to hang out for a casual meal+drinks with friends. The place is mostly red-hued, true to its name, and it seems the weather is always chilly when I’m there, so I’ve associated it as a cozy comfort-place. Firehouse has 2 levels, but I definitely favour the upper Cocktail Lounge, as it has large couches to flop around on and relax.

But the best bit? All mains are $10. The menu’s pretty extensive too, and they don’t scrimp on the size or quality. For $10, you get a very very decent steak, or salmon, or whatever your heart desires. I normally opt for the steak, but this time I went for the Lamb Shank with mash, caramelised onion & jus, to go with my glass of red wine. The lamb shank was tender and came as one large shank sitting proudly atop buttery mash. Total comfort food. I did find the jus a little too rich and more-ish for me, but still very good. Favourite was definitely the Fries with tomato sauce which I shared with a girl friend – they came in a large bowl and were awesome!! I could just have the whole bowl for dinner, and be quite happy πŸ˜‰

Very pleased with the place, and just great for a casual meal. Considering I’ll be moving into the area soon, I’m pleased there’s a place close-by for good, cheap food.

But YES I’M MOVING OUT!!! My lease ends at the end of this month so I’ve been going house-hunting and finally found a place. I love it – it’s about a 10min train to work and in a lovely, leafy, pretty suburb. The rent is blimmin’ $$$ but rental prices are going up astronomically here right now, so I don’t have much of a choice. I’ve got this place on the 20th May so will be moving in over a few days after that. I’m looking forward to it – the place is just lovely! πŸ™‚

Even better because the food’s really decent! Sometimes the $10-for-a-steak meals are a bit…. botchy :X

you call ketchup tomato sauce too!! in the states, ketchup and tomato sauce are two different things. i got weird looks from people when i tell them to “pass the tomato sauce”

i can’t believe how cheap the food is! and it looks fantastic.

congrats on the new place! i feel like i’ve been reading your blog forever! hehe

I’m looking forward to moving out! Rent’s insane right now.. min $400 for a teeny tiny one-bedroom in the city..arghhhh
