Picture this: Friday. Lunchtime. Perfect weather outside.
Doesn’t take a genius to figure out that we were all gagging to be outdoors and enjoying the day. So 6 of us had a beautiful Springtime lunch at Lord Nelson. Made of sandstone, the building is a historic heritage and Sydney’s oldest pub. It’s lovely and quaint inside, and was actually totally filled with the lunchtime crowd. Best part? They brew their own beer. And not the nasty, cheap, weird kind either.. the beer was sublime! My choice was Quayle Ale (4.0% alc/vol. Pale yellow – predominantly wheat beer, light bodied and dry crisp finish (named after the US Vice President’s visit in 1989).) It is now my absolute #1 favourite beer, ever.
Ended up choosing the Steak pie with mashed potato and mushy peas. I confess I chose it because it was the cheapest item on the menu, at $11. Yes, I was being a cheapskate! Glad I chose it though, it was yum. The beef inside was chunky and super soft, no weird bits. The mashed potato was super creamy and buttery and the mushy peas actually weren’t so bad (I get a bit freaked out with green ‘stuff’ on my food). The rich gravy poured generously over everything was pretty awesome too. I also noticed they had a sign offering the pie for $5 (!!) on Monday nights, so Chris and I are definitely going on Mon π
Also had a bite of the Spaghettini with seafood. I was so impressed it came like gourmet pasta – very little thick sauce, and stacked with crab and seafood. Maybe next time I’ll get that, it was delicious. I’m glad I’ve found my favourite beer now! Unfortunately, it’s only sold at this one particular pub since it’s home-brewed.. boo.

Loved the look of the pasta. I really miss working in an office and going out to a restaurant to eat.
The pasta was flippin’ amazing. Will def get that next time :)~
I love that, we have a Lord Nelson hotel as well. I don’t think there’s a brewery involved, but yay π I’m full of random as well as food right now and have gone stupid ^^;
Heh cool. This one has quite pricey food for a pub IMHO… but the Monday night $5 pies are awesome π
