There’s 3 of us and our electricity bill came up to $AU 290, and that was for the summer and autumn months. I really don’t want to see what winter’s bill is going to churn out….

Heh yeah.. winter’s always a killer on the electricity bills, and even if you don’t use heaters that much, everyone takes longer hotter showers!

Other things count though.

Firstly, it’s winter, so you electric heaters push up the bill.

Also, you may be keeping the computer on 24/7.

And even if you keep the tv and vcr on standby, they still use elctricity too…and electric clocks etc….

Oh, and dont forget leaving on lights at night too!

Yeah figured that heaters were pushing the bill up – we have 1 each in our rooms, and 1 oil heater in the living room. We only turn them on at night though and try to use as little as possible.

Didn’t think about the TV thing, does it really use a lot?? we also have electric hot plates on our stove as well as an electric oven.. and we cook quite often so I think that adds a lot to it too?

depends on how big your tv’s and monitors are and how often you use them, but yeah, they add to the bill. Perhaps you could just watch vcd’s on your computer instead since they are already on.

Or maybe buy a tv tuner for the computer so you dont have to use the tv.

Of course, I dont know how often you guys use it πŸ™‚

not really

room mates are female, 3 months, just a hair over 80 bucks a month, hell, that’s a miracle, one female takes 600 bucks a month average if left unchecked, men have “smellnith” gene, females have the woo-fee gene. (woman+female), they do everything for at least 2 all their lives…

Re: sigh

Whoa! OK you win πŸ˜› What appliances do you use that makes it so high? I know heaters, dish washers and dryers take up the most.. Ros and I don’t have the latter 2 but we have heaters in the house that are on really often.

Re: sigh

I have a fridge, a t.v., vcr(which is hardly on all the time), a small tiny lil’ heater, er….my laptop and that’s about it? Oh, the stove and the boiler. Man.

its pretty normal i believe. my sister and my electric bills add up to around $250 every 3 months. back when i shared an apartment with 3 other friends it was around $350.

*whew*.. was thinking we were electricity-guzzling girls or something! But $240 still seems like a lot. I’m trying to think of more as $80/month which seems a bit better.
