I’ve been reading your journal for awhile now – it’s funny how I found it !!! But anyways, I’m the one w/ the medical advice – Cholesterol sticks to the sides of your arteries. The more you eat the more that sticks there. Eventually you get narrowing of your blood vessels and get increased blood pressure because your blood has more resistance in the way. With decreased blood flow to essential organs you can suffer many many consequences. Primarily, if the “stuff” that sticks to the sides of your arteries gets too big – you form a CLOT. A Complete cut off of blood circulation to vital organs such as your HEART??? That’s called a stroke. This process is a slow one, and can be easily prevented by starting NOW!!! Yes, you’re young and in shape (God bless you with a fast metabolism) but “BEN” having a kick-ass body doesn’t always tell you what’s going on “inside”. You are what you eat, babe. Live it, love it.

Re: bev…..
I so totally agree with “the livejournal MD”. thats partly because i am studying medicine. being thin does not reflect a healthy lifestyle nor a healthy body. you may not feel the effect now bev but you will surely regret in a couple of decades when the doctor diagnose you with high blood pressure or having severely narrowed arteries. you say that changing the way you eat or that exercising is easier said than done, but do it before its too late. i am not trying to scare you or something but this is reality. thin people do get heart attack or stroke.
Re: bev…..
Yeah.. I do know all about cholesterol and all the assorted problems that come with a high cholesterol level. But changing a lifestyle that you’ve been leading for over 20 years is *really* hard! All my life I’ve had a sedantry lifestyle and never ate fruit and veg and only liked junkfood and generally unhealthy stuff – so suddenly doing an about-turn and eating totally healthily and exercising is like torture.
But so far, I”ve started eating fruit and I now eat tomatoes and lettuce, so I figure that’s a start. I’m also well aware of the fact that I should exercise, and I did for a month, but then gave up. But when Uni session starts again, I’ll start going to classes like aerobics and pilates, etc.. and see how that goes!
Re: bev…..
well i guess a total change of lifestyle may be a bit too drastic so take things slowly, step by step. its great that you are eating fruits and vege but dont drown them in ice cream or rich creams and salad sauces, then there is no point of eating them in the first place, rite? as for the exercise part, take things slowly considering the fact that you have no been exercising for ages. since you used to do ballet, why dont you go for dance classes? they are jes as good and enjoyable.
all the best! π

I’m not surprised you have such high cholesterol. All you do is eat rich, fat laden foods. You need to watch your intake.

HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA
BABE,
U SHOULD HAVE A LIPID PANEL DONE – NOT TO BE MEAN, BUT YOU EAT LOTS OF CHOLESTEROLS & FATS & UNHEALTHY THINGS!!!! DYSLIPIDEMIA NOT ONLY AFFECTS THE ELDERLY, THE YOUNG CAN SUFFER TOO! IF YOU DON’T TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF NOW – IN A FEW YEARS YOU WILL BE ON LIPITOR!!!!
—PEACE
Re: HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA
Lipid panel? Hmm.. haven’t heard of that. What is it? I mean, I already have had my cholesterol checked and the test said it’s incredibly high – is this a similar thing?
Re: HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA
A lipid panel checks your LDL, VLDL, HDL, cholesterol, triglycerides, etc. VLDL is the worst one to have high, and HDL is the good one! (high density lipoprotein). You want HDL high. If you do not watch your saturated fat intake – it can clog your arteries and lead to hypertension, diabetes, or even one day a stroke!! I recommend you watch your saturated fat intake and prepare foods with less butter & cream cheese & sour cream, etc. I almost feel like I’m getting a heart attack just from reading these recipes!
Re: HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA
whoa like… this is all way too serious now, isn’t it?

like hey, Bev’s just enjoying her food. look at her, she’s got a great body and all.
she works out too, so i guess there’s nothing to worry here, rite…
heh. are you a doctor or something? your analysis sounds way cool though.
i’m just really amazed at all the stuff you typed out. π

Re: HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA
Actually, I’m pretty sure I had that test done. 6 months ago I went to the doctor’s specifically to check my cholesterol, since my parents had the inkling that it was high. It was, so I’m supposed to exercise and eat healthy. But it’s easy to SAY I have to do that, waaay harder to actually DO it! I did exercise for about a month, but then I kinda got bored and gave up.
I guess I need to start watching my diet, but it’s incredibly hard because we have to eat the food college dishes out – that includes pizzas, roasts, fish & chips, nachos, burgers, etc.. and because food is provided and it’s all unhealthy, it’s pretty hard to eat ‘healthily’!
i miss you
