Sydney Fish Market
Bank Street
Pyrmont, NSW 2009

Today’s a public holiday, hurray!! It’s actually winter here, but today was bright and sunny and warm.. and just too perfect to coop ourselves up indoors, so we scooted on down to Pyrmont Fish Markets. Fortunately it wasn’t too crowded, but we still had to navigate around masses of people, all eagerly ordering or waiting or collecting or eating their fresh seafood.

We decided on a small seafood platter which came in a big mound of fish & chips, octopus, calamari, various oysters and prawns. Everything was super fresh (well, duh) and completely delicious!!! We also had some salmon sashimi. The cool slippery slivers of raw salmon is always a winner. We scoffed everything in under 10 mins, much to the amusement of the elderly couple next to us that were watching us stuff our faces πŸ˜‰

After that, I was peckish for some ice cream.. and here’s when I discovered THE BEST ICE CREAM IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. I’m normally not a huge ice cream fan, the only one I’ll eat is Connoisseur’s Cookies & cream, which I have pretty much every night after dinner. But today, I discovered Nestle’s Maxibon – it sounds like a Maxipad, to my amusement πŸ˜› Anyway, it’s just fantastic. The ice cream is sandwiched between 2 soft cookies and ooooooooooooeeerrrrrrrr it’s divine!!! All rich and chewy and yummy. IT’S A WINNER! Going to have that all the time now :)~

Sashimi… mmm…

Super fresh scallops – bought some to cook for dinner tomorrow

A bucket of “fish scraps”. It’s funny, Aussie’s don’t realise the value
and delicious-ness of Salmon Belly. So we got 8 pieces for $2.40!! HAHAH!!!!

Our seafood platter

Other side of the seafood platter

We shared a small plate of salmon sashimi

This little unassuming pizzeria is located along the highway and really easy to miss. Yet it’s still one of our favourite pizzerias. Priced at around $18 for a *ahem* “gourmet” pizza, it’s actually quite reasonable. My favourite is the Mongolian Lamb with onion, capsicum and mushrooms, which is almost always the pizza we get πŸ˜‰ It’s fabulous! The lamb actually looks quite dry and tough on the pizza, but one bite and you’ll be sold – because the lamb is super duper ultra soft and juicy! No weird stringy or hard bits, it’s just pure bliss. And the sauce and other toppings just make it so perfect.

The only downside? The pizza drips with oil. There is SO MUCH oil that it oozes everywhere, drips off the pizza, and makes you feel like you’ve drunk a glass of pure oil after you’ve eaten. So in one sitting, I can really only eat 4 slices instead of all 8. But I’m willing to overlook that, because the pizza’s so good :)~

Oh the turquoise is a pretty pretty color πŸ™‚ Yum! And speaking of yum..the seafood the pizza…mmmmm…and ive never heard of the maxibon? is it like a chipwich? an ice cream sandwich with cookies on the outsides? cause thats de-lish! but the maxibon looks just huge!

It’s really hard to capture the turquoise colour.. it’s so pretty and vibrant, I really like it πŸ™‚

I haven’t seen a chipwich! BUt ya, it’s ice cream with choc chip bits in it.. and with 2 soft cookies on either side :)~

umm salmon sashimi – we always eat that at the fish market, along with the seaweed πŸ™‚

maxibon ay? must also try.. hee

Ooo.. I’ve never had the seaweed.. it’s the bright green stuff right? It looks too weird for me πŸ˜›
GO TRY SOME maxibon!!! They’re soooooooooooooo good

Hehe yeah! But most place sell them minus the orange roe and without the shell.. I think it’s more expensive when they come on shells as their fresher??

What holiday is it out there? It’s a holiday here in Hawaii too. It’s *King Kamehameha Day*. Say that ten times real fast. Haha! πŸ˜€

sighs Bev, I think I’m starting to get bit by the B-bag craze as well :O

BTW I don’t know how you can have such a flawless skin with all the greasy food you eat! tell me your secret πŸ˜›

*lol*! Ahh.. B bags are so nice, be careful or you’ll get obsessed too πŸ˜‰

Ehhh my skin’s in a sorry state atm – it’s suddenly scarring really easily so I have little red scars all over, I HATE it πŸ™

I love those Maxibon Cookies, too. I wish they sold packs of them in Coles.

That pizza looks really, really good. It’s a pity it’s oily, but I’ll try it sometime, anyway.

Oooooo good point, you can only buy Maxibons individually? That sucks πŸ™

The pizza’s NICCCE but maybe you can ask for less oil and cheese when you order? I’m going to try that next time

Yeah, I’ve searched for them a bit, but haven’t come across packs of them yet. I know that packs of the original Maxibons used to exist (Pizza Hut had them as part of a meal deal), so maybe the Maxibon cookies will eventually come in packs. πŸ™‚

There’s no chance of me asking for less cheese! Half of the reasons that pizza looks so good is all the cheese. The other half of the reasons is all the huge chunks of lamb…

I actually don’t like too much cheese on my pizza, I can’t taste the rest of the ingredients πŸ˜› MMm… but gimmie lots of lamb…..

Your bags are oh so pretty :)…

Yum, I totally agree with you on the yumminess of the Maxibon Cookie icecream. I’m so happy they bought those out, because I used to eat the original Maxibon, but only the half with the chocolate cookies around it! The other half which was choc-dipped, I always threw out hehe.

I WISH I’d discovered it before! And yeah, Chris said the original one only has 1 cookie, so I prefer this new one πŸ˜›

I know!! we bought half-a-kilo for just AU$2.40… haha.. to Australians, it’s the scrap bits that they probably feed to their pets πŸ˜›

issit expensive for salmon sashimi there at the fish markets?
im planning a trip down to sydney prolly in 2 -3 weeks.. anywhere that u can recommend to stay at? most impt i wanna visit fish market..

Nope, it’s super cheap at the fish markets! The one that we got in the pic above was only AU$5 πŸ™‚

I’m not sure where to say though.. as I haven’t really stayed in hotels around Sydney.. but we often have events at the Shangri-La or Grand Hyatt in the City and both are gorgeous and close to everything!
