We give Hunter a pacifier to fall asleep and once he’s asleep, it’s fine if it falls out (ie. he continues sleeping). But if he’s still drowsy and it falls out, he’ll start calling out for it and fussing until we stuff it back in.
So I’ve been hoping and praying that soon, he’ll have enough hand-to-eye coordination to 1) find the dropped pacifier in his cot, and 2) stuff it back into his mouth.
I have no idea when they’re meant to “learn” this skill… but Hunter isn’t doing so well at it, *LOL*. He gets so overly excited at the thought of having the pacifier in his mouth that he gets really jerky and his arms flail all over the place, so he ends up unable to stuff it properly into his mouth! I know he’s managed to do it a couple of times by himself at night, but I reckon it’s more by fluke that him properly learning how to do it 😉
Any one with kids that can tell me at approx how many months old they can properly self-pacify themselves? 🙂

I only gave my girls tutu when they were around 1 month old and stop when they hit 3 months (they both stopped themselves, didn’t need it to help them sleep anymore). I personally don’t think it’s necessary (only so they wouldn’t use my boobs to help them sleep)… another thing to wean off when they get older. My 2 cents.
Yeah Hunter generally doesn’t use anything to nap when we’re out, but we are fine with him using it to sleep at night, as if it drops out after he’s asleep, he’s ok with it. I only don’t like to see toddlers walking around with pacifiers randomly stuffed into their mouth – no purpose! 😛
Yes, horrible. If they can walk and talk they don’t need a pacifier. My nephew was 3 and his parents had to wean him off, sigh – sobs, bribes, horrible.
Oh and I have to say, I think my #2 looks a little like your son ahahahaha! I *heart* the roundness!

hmmm i think this one is just a matter of time. S can find her pacifier and pop it back into her mouth when she’s asleep now, but it took her some time to get the hang of it too.
i keep spares around the cot, in case it falls out and i can’t find it (beats having to listen to her whining and complaining). the only time now that she fusses in the middle of the night is when she’s actually lying on the pacifier and can’t find it! or if it’s fallen out of the cot. lol!
Oo when did she learn to do that? I’m hoping at around 6 months, heh

i kinda don’t remember when she started doing it… she just did! but it’s quite funny to see her doing it in her sleep now. she once tried to stuff a rubber ducky in her mouth (she was clutching it when she fell asleep) thinking it was the pacifier!
