Bite Me recently opened in Paddington – a cafe with a twist. What I like about it is that it’s evident thought has gone into the little details – from the decor featuring large pictures of their popular items, to the little paper sachets that the cutlery comes in. The atmosphere is lively and the staff are all pleasant and friendly. Everyone sits on one long communal table that probably seats around 20 people, which is a bit weird as you end up sitting really close to people, not great if you like personal space and don’t like people breathing over your food.
They’re still working out the kinks, so there were bits and pieces that were didn’t come out quite right – like the person next to me who insisted the cheese was missing from his burger (he was then told it was “hidden” beneath the ingredients, though he still protested he couldn’t find any), and also fries that were served to wrong people twice. Most of all, I had to wait a very long time for my meal, so I was really jittery by the time it came.
Having said that, the food is LOVELY. It’s gourmet-style burgers, with fun combinations and cool presentation. They use Australian meat and produce and it’s completely different from standard fast-food burgers. On the downside, they’re very $$$. The burgers are approx $15 and you order drinks and fries separately.. so it ends up being around $25 for a meal. Quite pricey for cafe/fast-food π
I opted for the 2 Mini-Bites with Fries, which was like a (very) mini degustation meal, hehe. Chose the Lambtastic: luscious lamb burger flavoured with mint, cumin & olives; rocket, cucumber, grilled red capsicum, grilled haloumi cheese & Greek yoghurt – it was so meaty and lamb-y! Beautiful, strong flavour that was off-set with the cool tang of yoghurt and cucumber. The other burger I chose was the Pluck Me: grilled corn-fed chicken breast topped with melted King Island brie, iceberg lettuce & djion honey mustard – I actually thought this wouldn’t be as nice as the lamb but after a bite, I think it’s even better π The chicken was tender and the King Island brie cheese was melty, warm and accompanied the grilled chicken perfectly. I had a choice between Cranberry or Djion Honey Mustard, and went for the latter upon the waiter’s suggestion, and he was right, it was delicious.
The Trolley Fries were the cutest.. dumped in a novelty little shopping cart!! π Now why don’t all places do that instead of chucking them in a boring bowl? The chips were a bit overcooked but the cuteness aspect of it was enough for me π Also, a serve of aioli to dip the fries into would have gone done a treat.
Dessert was Pat & Stick ice cream, my favourite ice cream in the world. Hand-made, they’re totally luscious! I had the Strawberry ice cream sandwiched in chocolate biscuits which was an unusual and pretty great combination. The ice cream wasn’t too sweet but was lovely and creamy, and the biscuits were soft/doughy and went down a charm. Also appreciated how they didn’t overcharge – Pat & Stick sell their ice creams for $5 a pop and that’s what Bite Me sold them for as well.
I’m happy with the place. Will definitely go back next time I’m in Paddington. Also going to try and get them to cater for one of our weekly office lunches π

Yum! I like Pat & Stick, but they’re quite hard to find.
I LOVE ’em so much but can’t find them in the city π They’re @ Chatswood Chase though and you can buy a box of 5 for $20 or something like that!
Where to get your ice cream fix
Hello – glad to hear you love our ice cream sandwiches!
Currently, stockists closest to the city are the Fine Food Store in The Rocks; and the Pyrmont Good Living Growers markets, which run on the first Saturday of each month. (This coming Saturday, in fact!)

Re: Where to get your ice cream fix
My bad – we’re no longer at the Fine Food Store. Check us out at the Blackwattle Deli at the Pyrmont Fish Markets instead. Thanks!
Re: Where to get your ice cream fix
Oooh cheers for that! Any chance it’ll soon be selling in the City around the Wynyard or Town Hall area? That’ll be an absolute DREAM….
Wow, that trolley is just too adorable!
i reckon they should’ve piled the chips higher though, hehe!

oh my goodness, such a cute way to present their fries π
Hehe yeah, all restaurants should do that!
do you get the badges for free? i so wanna try out the ice cream! π
Yeah you can just grab the badges, and they’re coming up with more merchandise too. Cute!
ahhh thats nice!! a cute way to don the bag up!
At Delux Burger Bar in Edmonton, they also serve fries in little shopping carts. Cute!
I thought the fries could’ve been fresher/less deep fried here, but at least the novelty was there >D
Looks quite good. Being a cheese man, the selling point for me would be the haloumi or brie cheese in the burger. Sounds like a terrific twist from the norm π And I do have to admit that trolley idea rocks!
Though it does sound somewhat pricey for a burger joint.
That brie cheese oozing everywhere… OMG.. so good. You and Erica should go!
