I never saw myself working in the corporate field when I was young.. always wanted to work for myself so I wouldn’t have a boss π But I do like it now, it’s amazing what you learn and I learnt a lot of stuff that I never knew about before – plus it’s so much more relevant than what you learn at Uni (which I think is useless) π My dream job is still to start a cosmetics line though! π

Well I don’t use Windows and the only MS product I use is IE. Every time a big virus goes around the world I’m safe in the knowledge that I don’t have it!
I don’t care if they are or aren’t nice to their customers, do or don’t do charity work.. basically it comes down to the fact that they have so much power and (what?) 90? percent of the world’s computer users use that operating system… let’s just all be sheep and follow the crowd, because Microsoft wants us to.
Heh, I actually prefer Mozilla to IE – I have about 10 windows open at any one time so IE really chews on the RAM.
Btw, you can’t blame Microsoft for being such a powerful and rich company. It’s the consumers that made them that way. Do you honestly think people decided to buy the software simply because “Microsoft wants us to”? They buy it because the software serves a purpose, and they want it. People DON’T buy things because a company “wants” them to. So obviously MS would be doing *something* right to have this kind of sales and effect on the IT industry. If you want to point fingers and accuse, then accuse the common consumers for MAKING the company as big as it is now.

Microsoft knows fully well they have monopoly. I think that’s the aim of every company – to have great sales and be the foremost in their field, so I’m not going to blame them for it. What my original comment was that they care about their customers – if they didn’t, they wouldn’t even become a big company – they would remain a small, useless one. Plus, our entire workshop was formulated for us to discuss HOW to make our customers happier – so are you saying what I did on Thurs was a complete illusion? Because I put forth a whole bunch of ideas on what MS can do to improve customer connections – are you saying that I was completely fake and was just out to make money? ‘Cos I don’t get that money at all, Bill Gates does, I still get my standard wage. I just don’t like people telling me what I do is a complete illusion and I’m there for nothing.
At at the bottom of it all, if MS cared about *themselves* only, what the hell do you think I’m doing in the company? Cos I’m just BRILLIANT and they need me? Hahaha. I’m nothing compared to what they COULD get for themselves, but they chose me because they wanted to give me an opportunity – and to me, that’s caring about the consumer.
Personally, I hate some MS products too. Windows ME was gawd awful and IE simply hates me. I can pick out numerous faults and bugs that I would fix – but I guess it’s hard to make things perfect, and while I’m there, I can do the best I can because it’s also part of my job. But my point is that they DO try to make everyone happy – or the whole company would fold-over and no one would want to work for them. And it’s really opened my eyes to both the IT and corporate world. I just never thought I would be where I am and i honestly am amazed that, yes, a monopolising and self-centered company.. albeit a darn rich one, would choose ME, of all people, to work for them! That alone makes them amazing to me and now that I’ve seen how they tick, I AM impressed with the fact that they dedicate divisions and thousands of staff to make sure consumers are happy.

Indeed Bill Gates does have more money than most other person, and I remember reading somewhere that the reason he donates so much money to charity is because he doesn’t want to leave it to his kids.

But he and Microsoft are avid supporters of the Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights rules of the World Trade Organization which basically protects Microsofts products…and also stops African Countries from being able to purchase medicine and vacines at cheap prices….
Yeah…he’s such a nice guy that Bill Gates…and Microsoft..what a loooooooooooovely caring company…not to mention the high quality software they make at Oh so affordable prices!

I think it’s useless to insist and hope for a company to NOT care about money, at the end of the day. I also don’t think it’s wise to make really strong decisions without a lot of research and having a full idea of exactly what the company is about and what they do, y’know? For example, our department supports charities (our division actually held 2500 charity events last financial year, and all of the millions that were made went direct to charity) – and they didn’t just throw over a check and leave it at that, like every other company does. They donated money AND spent time making/folding the little bandanas and whatever that were to be sold, and dedicated something that’s a lot more meaningful and worthwile than money – time and effort.
That’s great that you guys also learned about the marketing aspect because that’s what I’m majoring in. I’m glad you’re having fun.

Of course, I’m not stupid and blind you know. ANY company wants sales, that’s the bottom line. But in order to GET those sales, they know that a customer connection or relationship is the key. And I think it shows integrity and care that they recognise these issues and want to play an active part in it – it shows a knowledge of the business and how to get it to best suit you AND the customer.

Yeah of course they do – where they stand as a global corporation attests to that. If they didnt’ care about the customers and only about themselves, they wouldn’t be the biggest IT company and one of the largest companies in the world.. because consumers would take their business elsewhere if they didn’t feel they were properly taken care of.

Of course, I’m not stupid and blind you know. ANY company wants sales, that’s the bottom line. But in order to GET those sales, they know that a customer connection or relationship is the key. And I think it shows integrity and care that they recognise these issues and want to play an active part in it – it shows a knowledge of the business and how to get it to best suit you AND the customer.

Yeah of course they do – where they stand as a global corporation attests to that. If they didnt’ care about the customers and only about themselves, they wouldn’t be the biggest IT company and one of the largest companies in the world.. because consumers would take their business elsewhere if they didn’t feel they were properly taken care of.

I never saw myself working in the corporate field when I was young.. always wanted to work for myself so I wouldn’t have a boss π But I do like it now, it’s amazing what you learn and I learnt a lot of stuff that I never knew about before – plus it’s so much more relevant than what you learn at Uni (which I think is useless) π My dream job is still to start a cosmetics line though! π

Well I don’t use Windows and the only MS product I use is IE. Every time a big virus goes around the world I’m safe in the knowledge that I don’t have it!
I don’t care if they are or aren’t nice to their customers, do or don’t do charity work.. basically it comes down to the fact that they have so much power and (what?) 90? percent of the world’s computer users use that operating system… let’s just all be sheep and follow the crowd, because Microsoft wants us to.
Heh, I actually prefer Mozilla to IE – I have about 10 windows open at any one time so IE really chews on the RAM.
Btw, you can’t blame Microsoft for being such a powerful and rich company. It’s the consumers that made them that way. Do you honestly think people decided to buy the software simply because “Microsoft wants us to”? They buy it because the software serves a purpose, and they want it. People DON’T buy things because a company “wants” them to. So obviously MS would be doing *something* right to have this kind of sales and effect on the IT industry. If you want to point fingers and accuse, then accuse the common consumers for MAKING the company as big as it is now.

I can pick out numerous faults and bugs that I would fix – but I guess it’s hard to make things perfect, and while I’m there, I can do the best I can because it’s also part of my job. But my point is that they DO try to make everyone happy – or the whole company would fold-over and no one would want to work for them. And it’s really opened my eyes to both the IT and corporate world. I just never thought I would be where I am and i honestly am amazed that, yes, a monopolising and self-centered company.. albeit a darn rich one, would choose ME, of all people, to work for them! That alone makes them amazing to me and now that I’ve seen how they tick, I AM impressed with the fact that they dedicate divisions and thousands of staff to make sure consumers are happy.

Also you may or may not be aware that Bill Gates recently donated a few million to buy vacines for dieseases such as aids malaria and so forth for the people of Africa.
But he and Microsoft are avid supporters of the Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights rules of the World Trade Organization which basically protects Microsofts products…and also stops African Countries from being able to purchase medicine and vacines at cheap prices….
Yeah…he’s such a nice guy that Bill Gates…and Microsoft..what a loooooooooooovely caring company…not to mention the high quality software they make at Oh so affordable prices!

As a corporation, do you think they (or ANY business for that matter) can *honestly* say they don’t care about their customers’ money? I think it’s useless to insist and hope for a company to NOT care about money, at the end of the day. I also don’t think it’s wise to make really strong decisions without a lot of research and having a full idea of exactly what the company is about and what they do, y’know? For example, our department supports charities (our division actually held 2500 charity events last financial year, and all of the millions that were made went direct to charity) – and they didn’t just throw over a check and leave it at that, like every other company does. They donated money AND spent time making/folding the little bandanas and whatever that were to be sold, and dedicated something that’s a lot more meaningful and worthwile than money – time and effort.
That’s great that you guys also learned about the marketing aspect because that’s what I’m majoring in. I’m glad you’re having fun.

Also you may or may not be aware that Bill Gates recently donated a few million to buy vacines for dieseases such as aids malaria and so forth for the people of Africa.
But he and Microsoft are avid supporters of the Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights rules of the World Trade Organization which basically protects Microsofts products…and also stops African Countries from being able to purchase medicine and vacines at cheap prices….
Yeah…he’s such a nice guy that Bill Gates…and Microsoft..what a loooooooooooovely caring company…not to mention the high quality software they make at Oh so affordable prices!

As a corporation, do you think they (or ANY business for that matter) can *honestly* say they don’t care about their customers’ money? I think it’s useless to insist and hope for a company to NOT care about money, at the end of the day. I also don’t think it’s wise to make really strong decisions without a lot of research and having a full idea of exactly what the company is about and what they do, y’know? For example, our department supports charities (our division actually held 2500 charity events last financial year, and all of the millions that were made went direct to charity) – and they didn’t just throw over a check and leave it at that, like every other company does. They donated money AND spent time making/folding the little bandanas and whatever that were to be sold, and dedicated something that’s a lot more meaningful and worthwile than money – time and effort.
That’s great that you guys also learned about the marketing aspect because that’s what I’m majoring in. I’m glad you’re having fun.
Yeah it was really interesting ‘cos I’m always so IT-ish that I’m kind of oblivious to the marketing aspect.. and you ALWAYS need to know some kind of marketing or you won’t even know what you’re producing π

Yeah, but having the most money doesn’t come with any sort of agreement that you MUST give it away. Personally, if I had tons of money I’d be really tempted to keep it all for myself or just give a litte bit away π

Of course, I’m not stupid and blind you know. ANY company wants sales, that’s the bottom line. But in order to GET those sales, they know that a customer connection or relationship is the key. And I think it shows integrity and care that they recognise these issues and want to play an active part in it – it shows a knowledge of the business and how to get it to best suit you AND the customer.

Yeah of course they do – where they stand as a global corporation attests to that. If they didnt’ care about the customers and only about themselves, they wouldn’t be the biggest IT company and one of the largest companies in the world.. because consumers would take their business elsewhere if they didn’t feel they were properly taken care of.
Heh, they really should remind Optus about that sometimes.
I’m annoyed at Optus cos they charge SO much for mobile calls ;( I’m used to SG’s cheap rates!
