Kobe Jones is a love of mine.

See their intro:
Kobe Jones is a modern Japanese Restaurant with a twist. Super chic and innovative – the perfect setting to indulge an ultra culinary experience.
Inspired by the best of eastern spices and the californian flavours of the west. The huge menu is fresh and light containing some surprising delicious dishes.
Taste one of our fabulous cocktail creations, enjoy a blend of chill-out ambient music with spectacular water views.

It’s 100% spot-on. The restaurant is perfect for a casual meal or to celebrate an occasion. The views are spectacular, the service is subtle, friendly and efficient, and the food is….. spectacular. Easily one of my favourite restaurants, the dishes are a beautiful and unique blend of Japanese and Western. What sets Kobe Jones apart from other restaurants is that you simply won’t find ANY other restaurant that serves similar food.

This time, I went for there for lunch with , to celebrate her birthday and engagement! We got a table outdoors, and the whole area was filled up by the time we were mid-way through our lunch. We selected from their Specials, since from experience I’ve found their main dishes fairly average, it’s the Specials that are unique and sooo worth it. We ended up getting 3 dishes:

Number One Special (Crab Salad with avocado wrapped in snapper and baked with KJ’s cream sauce): their best special, according to them. To be honest, it tasted fairly similar to the Volcano roll below, being that both had the same cream sauce and similar ingredients. It’s fantastic, but at $7 each, the Volcano roll is way more worth the $$.

Volcano Roll (Oven baked scallops layered on top of California roll with sesame seeds and shallot sprinkle): their best sushi dish IMHO, I always order this and it’s consistently a winner. The scallops swim in a rich creamy sauce and the sushi is totally fresh and divine. Love it!

Tuna Tataki (Seared tuna with a California twist): first time I had this and it was delicate and exquisite. The tuna was mild and really tender, just ever-so-lightly seared on the outside and dusted with fresh pepper. Mmmm. Served with a cream-type sauce and with some lovely mushrooms and asparagus.

After that, we were commenting on getting dessert.. when our lovely waitress came round with this gorgeous Dessert Patter of assorted desserts, placing it smack in the middle of our table. I kinda looked at it confused, about to open my mouth to say we didn’t order that, when she smiled and said “Complimentary dessert from the manager”. We were delighted!!! It honestly made my day as I gleefully eyed the pretty array of desserts and took a gazillion photos πŸ˜› All the little desserts (9 of them!!!) were delectable, I can’t pick a favourite.. but the Black Sesame ice cream (I think that’s what it was) and the strawberry shooter ranked right up there. Delish :)~

That’s what I love about Kobe Jones. The service is really personal and friendly. Even though I don’t go that often, the manager always recognises me and gives a cheery “Hello Beverly!” – always to my surprise because I can only imagine how many people visit the restaurant, so he must have an amazing memory! I haven’t once experienced lack lustre service at Kobe Jones, the staff are consistently really polite and charming. Just an all-round fantastic restaurant.

*drools* Okay, you’ve convinced me. I’m going to have to go there this Saturday! haha Do I have to make reservations?

YES definitely! Hope you’ll like it too.. remember to get the Specials – the mushroom medley and the soft shell crab specials are amazing too.

Probably best to make reservations. Keep an eye out for a slim guy with really short/shaved hair – he’s the manager πŸ™‚

Absolutely nothing to do with your post..

Flew to Sydney for work on Tuesday, funny enough, i thought about you! Out of this world i know… and i was like, “Hey i know someone in Sydney too!” Haha.. since most of my friends are from Brissy πŸ™‚

Re: Absolutely nothing to do with your post..

Yep, just one day.. it was one loong meeting. Perhaps the next time i’m there we should meet up over a meal if you’re up for it?

Hehe she’s SG’ean though. I LOVE her hair.. was admiring it through lunch ‘cos it was all bouncy and shiny. Mine felt quite blech so now I’m kinda inspired to do *something* with my hair πŸ˜‰

Hmm your hair looks fine really. Maybe try a hair mask? Or Neutrogena shampoo which removes all the residue from hair spray, leave-in etc..
Ahh she is? πŸ™‚

I use Kerastase.. love it! I meant like colour or do something interesting with my hair though, I normally just don’t do anything at all πŸ˜›

yep! I’m trying to put the costliness in all my reviews now.. so $— would be the cheapest and $$$$$ the most expensive

Me too, wish I could go there more often! the free dessert totally made my day, it was so fun with all the wee choices πŸ˜›

Aww thanks! It’s really nice of you to say that πŸ™‚ It was a lovely afternoon.. and wasn’t TOO filling, thank goodness!
