Golden
Coronation Plaza, 587 Bukit Timah Rd
Singapore
Golden Rooster is a favourite of mine.. especially since it’s just a few steps away from home. Seems like every other person in Singapore likes it too though, as it’s packed at lunchtimes.. especially since there’s a school nearby. Their specialty (and my favourite dish there) is Lemon chicken and rice. It’s this hybrid/fusion Western and Chinese style dish that’s just fantastic! Very mildly flavoured rice (dunno with what) and a small scoop of coleslaw, with the star ingredient – crispy fried chicken. A bottle of lemon sauce sits at every table, and it’s not too sweet or sour – just perfect. All dishes are < $3 here, which is unbelievable – everything that you see below fed 3 people to the brim, and cost $10 all up. In Australia, $10 gets me ONE meal.. it certainly won’t buy 3 meals and 2 drinks! Shameful.
The food here’s always spectacular. They also feature Daily Specials that are always a hit. The service leaves much to be desired though… typical Singaporean hawker food service – extremely brusque, rude and all around shitty. But since it’s common attitude here, no one really blinked an eyelid. I don’t know whether that’s a good or bad thing. Anyhow, cheap food serviced at lightning speed usually can’t go wrong, and for that, I just suck up the shitty attitude π

Cheap meals can be so much better than $$ meals sometimes..!
Man, I am so craving teh ping right now. That along with sugar cane with lemon are almost always my drink of choice when eating at hawker centres in Singapore. It just doesn’t taste the same when made at home.
So true… I don’t know why other countries don’t have teh/kopi ping.. it can’t be THAT hard to make?? I miss it π
