FOOD, Uncategorized GOOD FOOD & WINE SHOW 24 June 2006

*burps*
4.5 hours of non-stop eating and drinking today, so hence feeling a little woozy. But let’s start at the beginning…

Had some leftover muffins from last night’s burger dinner, so decided to make some brunch today. Since I had some eggs in the fridge, I randomly decided on some Baked eggs on muffins. It was really easy to make and is such a tasty snack – albeit utterly unhealthy πŸ™

Baked eggs on muffins
Was horrified to see all the liquified butter/fat..
but slurped it down happily anyway, it tasted good πŸ˜‰

Baked eggs on muffins (serves 1)

2 eggs at room temperature
2 muffins, toasted
1 tbsp double cream
chives
salt & pepper

1) Crack eggs in 1 small bowl/dish each
2) Sprinkle chives, salt and pepper. Top with double cream.
3) Bake at 180 celcius for 10 minutes
4) Serve on toasted muffins

After brunch, went to the Good Food & Wine Show with Chris, which is where the eating really started. The show is my idea of unadulterated bliss and what heaven must be like. Hundreds and hundreds of stalls of food – a glutton’s party.

We started off with the Bill Granger cooking show, and I went all starry-eyed seeing him in real life. I love all his food and recipes and I think he’s just brilliant! Hilarious show πŸ™‚ All up, we spent 4.5 hours wandering around the stalls.. eating and eating and eating and eating. And when we couldn’t eat any more, we had some “time out” in a corner to breathe deep and let our stomachs settle, then it was more eating, eating, eating πŸ˜‰ Ahhhhhh it was heavenly!! So much food there, but we were determined to eat from EVERY SINGLE STALL. And we did, HA HA! Well, we didn’t eat at all the stalls that had dips – as we aren’t too interested in dips (especially when they’re all pretty similar). But we decimated every other stall and had a blast πŸ˜€ It was a bit odd having SO many different types of food.. one second we’d be eating laksa, then the next it’ll be chocolate, then pasta, then coffee, then cheese, then beer, etc.. So at the end of the 4.5 hours, we had to stop because we couldn’t physically eat any more (without puking on the floor) and because our stomachs were getting all churny from the huge variety of foods. Brilliant though, can’t wait ’till next year πŸ˜€

This was just a small section of all the stalls

A tiny sample of the food we ate

Also had lots of beer, coffee, juice, etc, etc, etc

Happy, satisfied, and feeling stuffed to the eyeballs!

Afterwards, we couldn’t really move as we were so full.. so decided the best way was to sit down, watch a movie, and let the food settle. Ended up watching Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift. I loved it!!!! Hot cars and hot guys. Loved the floppy-haired Japanese guy :)~ The movie was great IMHO, tons of action scenes and I love fast, sexy cars.

After the movie, I saw a sushi bar (sorry, no address, can’t remember the name!) outside and went “Ooooooh! Are you hungry? Wanna eat?” Chris stared at me and said “You can’t be serious, you’re HUNGRY??” and I replied, shamefaced “Weeelll, it HAS been 2 hours since we last ate! All my food’s digested!” It’s true!! So we ended up having some sushi πŸ˜›

I KNEW you would go to the expo! I decided against it – opted for a day of shopping instead. But everytime we walked past restaurants I scanned the people to see if I could see you, but didn’t lol

*grin* I do find it really satisfying to make my own meals.. and it’s SO EASY, you should try it! Perfect on a cold morning..

Just wanted to let you know I had Penny over for brunch today, and we made them! We varied the recipe a bit – we had two eggs each, and used natural yoghurt instead of cream (not as a matter of preference, but just because I didn’t have cream), and put some parmesan cheese on top as well. But it was great! Just a perfect brunch. Thanks so much for the recipe. πŸ™‚

Woo! the fun part about cooking is just substituting for whatever’s lurking in the fridge. Plus, whilst the cream does give it that incredibly buttery lovely taste, the yoghurt is a LOT more healthy and the cheese will make up for the flavour. It sounds yum :)~

Wow. That sounds rather awesome. Alcohol doesn’t interest me too much, but food (especially desserts) does! Was there much dessert there, or was it more focused on “proper food”?

Also, I had no idea the yellow thing under the eel was egg, and I think I might’ve avoided it until now. I thought it was some sort of weird vegetable, which seems a bit silly now that I think about it… I do love eel, though! Egg and eel together sounds like it might be good.

Yummy.

we’re not huge on alcohol either, but the beers and spirits/cocktails were fab πŸ˜€ Just avoided the wine!
there were desserts too.. erm.. just lots of everything, haha! Bill Granger made a pannacotta :)~

Heh, the Jap egg’s really sweet and lovely!

hahah thanks for dropping by, I wanted to see Bill’s show but so much to see so little time!

Em

Know what you mean.. we didn’t have time to check out the other shows as well. Ah well, at least the stalls were awesome!

I love when you post about how much you and Chris have eaten in a single day, it always makes me laugh πŸ˜€ And I love strawberry and chocolate fondue!!! Yum yum… Do you guys own a fondue set? It’s so fun having fondue randomly πŸ˜€

we occasionally go on these all-out piggy sessions.. and then moan about how full we are afterwards πŸ˜›

we do have a set, but haven’t used it yet!

I couldn’t post all the pics individually.. there were over 100 so I just picked a fefw and super-shrunk them πŸ˜‰
