FOOD, My recipes, Uncategorized HOMECOOKED LAMB & FETA BURGERS 23 June 2006

Had some leftover raw mince from yesterday’s Roti John meal.. so decided to make some Lamb & Feta burgers, same as the ones from the other day (recipe in the link). Homecooked burgers are, by far, better than the takeaway version. The feta cheese really makes all the difference – it makes the pattie really gooey and moist, and utterly divine! Also bought a chicken caesar salad from the fruit shop downstairs to have with the burger. A super quick, easy, and (fairly!) healthy meal πŸ™‚

Also, I found a free (yay!) coupon for Boost Juice’s new Hottie drinks. Fantastic, ‘cos I’ve been eyeing them ever since they were released a few weeks ago. I happily handed my coupon over and got the Chai Delight (“a spicy, warming blend of low fat milk and Springleaf chai”). Verdict? Nice and hot on cold winter mornings.. but I found the Chai a bit too spicy for me. Next up, I want to try the Bananaberry hot choc (“low fat hot chocolate with a banana and berry twist”), mmmm!

Chai Delight

Speaking of cold winter mornings.. we were hit with a spot of very odd weather this morning. A super thick mist/fog descended upon the whole city. It was quite eerie and disorientating, as you couldn’t see very far and the mist was actually visable as it ‘moved’ with the wind. Weird! I took a photo out of my apartment window – it exactly captures with the visibility was (ie. none whatsosever)

The weird mist

Exactly the same view, without the mist

Yes! That fog delayed all the flights so we didn’t get in until late on Friday night! It was pouring when we were landing but slowed down later on πŸ™‚ Bloody Sydney weather πŸ˜‰

I just caught the train home. You and Chris walked right in front of me on the platform at Town Hall and then got onto the same carriage as me.

I didn’t say ‘hi’ because I thought it’d be kinda weird or something… πŸ˜›

OMG!!!!!!!!! I just got back πŸ˜› We were all zonked out and totally pooped, as you probably could tell. A whole day at the Good Food & Wine show… and feeling very fat from all the eating πŸ˜‰

I was too busy trying not to fall asleep and kept looking at the kid in front of us that was sucking on some sort of egg thing? Where were you? You should’ve said HI!

How was the Good Food & Wine show? I’d love to see some pictures of the good food, if you have any… It’s a yearly thing, right? I should go, next time. I only found out about it last night!

I was standing just at the bottom of the steps and then you and Chris came down and walked off somewhere. Then when I got on the carriage I saw you again. I was sitting a few seats behind you, facing backwards. πŸ˜›

I’ll say ‘hi’ if I see you again.

It was goood… but, erm, 4 hrs of eating non stop is a bit overwhelming *burps*

Sorting through my 100 (!) photos now.. will post in a sec πŸ™‚

(Chris says “I hope he didn’t catch me picking my nose or anything”. Haha!)

Ooh bananberry hot chocolate sounds amazing, you have to tell us about it if you have some.

I’ve driven through mist that thick before and it’s soo scary!

Sure, I’m glad i have the coupon cos I”m like you, I’m too chicken to pay for it in case I don’t like it! πŸ˜› A lot of the stores have 50% off all hotties now (the coupons are in-store) so if the banana is nice, we can get them half price – woo hoo

They should sell small “tasters” for a dollar or two, or something. I’ll never try Boost juice because I wouldn’t want to pay $5 for a drink without knowing what I’m getting.

Lamb and fetta go so well together!! I make this really yummy lamb, fetta and herb pasta πŸ™‚

Also, that sort of mist is pretty much a daily occurrence in Canberra! I remember in year 6 when I used to walk to school, and it was like walking towards the end of the earth because the mist was that thick! I couldn’t see beyond 50 mins. Really really cool though πŸ™‚ But terrible to drive in πŸ™

Mmmm! How do you make the pasta? Lamb slices or mince? I want to try that πŸ™‚

Hah yeah, it’s quite like Canberra or Melb, but it never happens in Sydney, first time I’ve seen it so thick!

I use mince. It’s really easy to make! I got a recipe off some magazine years ago and I’ve changed it heaps (by using diff herbs and by putting in heaps of cayenne pepper which gives it a great kick!), I can send you a copy of the recipe though if you would like! I’ll have to find it first πŸ˜€

But basically you just make the meat sauce, which you do by using tomatoes, lemon juice, mince and anchovies. Then after you’ve cooked the meat sauce you just add the pasta (I usually use penne because it grabs the meat better! and I think it’s what the recipe uses anyway), precooked of course, and after you’ve tossed it through thoroughly, you turn off the heat and put in the herbs (you can use most things, I use mint and basil but I sometimes put in baby spinach because it’s one of my fave vegetables) and crumbed fetta! It takes about 15 mins or so, really easy and delish πŸ™‚ I also substitute with beef sometimes, but it’s definitely better with lamb! It’s one of my favourite things to make because it’s so quick and easy and yummy πŸ™‚

I love living in AU because of the gorgeous views and weather.. and today, it’s super clear and sunny like in the 2nd pic, whew!

OHH so is that what the Boost juice “HOTTIES” were. Hot drinks! LOL.
I’ve never tried Chai tea… is it spicier than normal tea? I want to try the ones from Starbucks.
It was soo foggy today…. but after every fog the rest of the day is always nice and bright!

Hah yeah, I wasn’t sure what they were.. thought it was wierd they were making hot drinks when they make cold juices?!

Yeah, Chai’sjust spices steeped in milk.. it’s really nice, but the Boost version is a bit too spicy IMHO! The starbucks one is loveeeelyyyy

oo nice looking burger, as usual!
ive been wanting to try the boost juice’s hottie, not the chai one though coz i dont really like the taste :X was wondering how they can make a hot drink as i dont seem to see any new equipments around?!

I’m keen to try the banana choc one.. it sounds nice πŸ™‚
I tried looking to see how they’d make it too! she just scuttled down the back and made it, so I never did find out…
