FOOD, Uncategorized EASTER SUNDAY 16 April 2006

I was so pleased at the Easter service today that they played really familiar songs. What I miss most about going to my regular Church back in Singapore is the hymns. I grew up on all these old hymns and my church here in Australia sings completely different hymns. They’re nice too, but I prefer my oldies πŸ™‚ I wish they’d play them more often here!

Since Church was in the morning, Chris and I had brunch afterwards at Create cafe. It’s one of our favourite food places, we’re there almost every weekend (usually for lunch). I love it because you can sit outdoors, yet there’s also shade. And since today’s weather was again gorgeous and bright, we chose a sunny spot and parked ourselves happily at the table. Armed with Gloria Jeans coffee, all thoughts of “being healthy” went out the window as we ordered.

I had the Bacon & egg in a bun, which I’d actually envisioned as a half-boiled type egg sitting inside a bun.. kind of like how clam chowder is served in a bun in San Francisco. Unfortunately, it turned out to merely be a fried egg and bacon burger – *yawn*!! But it WAS a great burger, I’ll give it that. The bacon was crisp but didn’t have that burnt taste, and the egg was gooey at the yolk, mmmmmmm :)~ I didn’t eat the top-bun bit though, as it was covered in… sesame seeds *shudders*. Sesame seeds really freak me out. Plus, I figure it’s good not to eat so much carbs, right? πŸ˜‰

Chris settled on scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast. It was yum! The eggs were creamy and yellow.. probably because of the high butter/cream content πŸ˜‰ And the smoked salmon gave it that extra kick of flavour without being overtly salty. Very nice. Overall, a nice (but small) meal from one of our favourite cafes.

Nicely filled, we wandered around after that, since the weather was so perfect. But almost everything was shut since it’s Easter Sunday πŸ™ Even the library was shut! So we went into this massive Asian supermarket that was open.. and it seemed that everyone had the same idea, as the place was packed πŸ˜‰ I was utterly stoked to find Prima sauces!!!! Some of you told me that they were really authentic, so I finally decided on just 2 boxes – going to cook it up this week – I have high hopes πŸ™‚

Lots of Prima sauces!! It took me ages to pick just 2 πŸ˜›

TOP: taro ice creams, Japanese peach drink, Prima fried Hokkien mee sauce, Prima satay sauce
BOTTOM: peanut rice balls dessert, roti prata!

Also, recently a bunch of bakeries opened, copied from Singapore’s “Bread Talk” phenomenon..
Got a curry chicken fried bun, and a sausage bun – YUMMM!!!

Cooked corn fritters with avocado dip again tonight.. healthy! πŸ™‚

That roti pratha is the closest thing you get to the real deal.
I’ve had it when I was in UK and it tastes good! πŸ™‚

heya babe! glad u had a good Easter!! Prima sauces are *really* awesome (although the curry’s a bit thin) but they’ve been discontinued so BUY IT ALL UP!!! cuz u ain’t gonna get anymore πŸ™ they helped me survive my last year in NY, for sure!

i don’t know, but that’s what i heard…i’m sure google will throw up some relevant news…?

i know, it’s a bit sad πŸ™

We have pretty good Chinese food here, which is fortunate.. but nothing beats Singapore’s food! It’s just not totally the same here :X

omg i love create cafe’s too! whenever im in chatswood i always go there.

where did you find those Prima packs? i’d love to get some but have never seen them before! i can definitely say that that brand of roti prata is really good tho

Heh we were probably at Create at the same time.. we’re there almost every weekend for lunch! That, or the Sushi train next door.

The Prima packs are at the Asian supermarket next to Chase.. the supermarket that’s in the next building near the church, and you have to walk down the stairs to get to it. It’s huge!

haha my mom brought the prima chicken rice to the US and made it for the whole family. it was authentic, even came with the sauces! πŸ™‚

oh and i’m soooo envious you have bread shops opening over there. i miss breadtalk!

Ooooo yay! I’m going to cook it this week I think.. I can’t decide which one to make first, haha

I normally can’t stand bread, but when it’s got cute fillings… I LOVE IT :)~

I use a Casio Finepix.. it’s the smallest one so only 3.2 megapixels, but it suits me well as the camera’s so tiny!

do u usually take pics with or w/o flash?

i always have problem stablizing with my hands when taking pics w/o flash. So most pics turn out blur with my Olympus MJU 400. Think i need one with a serious anti-shake function. LoL!

Generally without flash if it’s outside in the day, otherwise I’ll use flash. My pics used to be blurry but I just learnt to keep my hands reaaaally study, lol!

Heh yeah.. sesame seeds and bean sprouts – can’t deal with any of those two on my food. And BOTH together in one dish? I’ll run screaming out πŸ˜› NOT A FAN!

Happy Easter! I wished the churches in Melbourne played good old songs like they do in SG churches too! It’s really quite a challenge keeping up with their tune! haha!

I know what you mean about the Prima Taste packs. It’s so hard to find them around here, and we just stood there staring at the whole range when we found it. The laksa and the curry chicken ones are pretty good. Tell us if the ones you picked are any good!

They’re not very traditional here too.. or maybe i’ve just been to the non-traditional ones?!

Ooo I wish I got the curry chicken one now! Next time I will :)~
