I
It started off with me waking up, alone in bed, and turning on the baby monitor to see this:
Chris had woken up early, gone into the kids’ room when they woke up, and was in there playing with them quietly. Actually, he does this every weekend (and any weekday when he’s around and isn’t rushing off to work), so it wasn’t particularly different. What WAS different was that I didn’t feel the urge or need to get up quickly, to make sure the kids were OK and to sort out their breakfasts/showers/etc.
Because it was Mother’s Day! And because I was given strict instructions from Chris the night before that I was to remain in bed and sleep in/veg out at all costs.
And so I did 🙂
I lolled around in bed, dozing away. Then the door knocked and the kids came in carrying…….. my laptop. I can unequivocally say that there is nothing cuter than seeing my two toddlers coming in proudly carrying my laptop together, with that hopeful-happy expression, waiting to see my reaction. Awww!!!
So there I sat, happily bumming away on my laptop…. drinking my hot coffee in my favourite mug, served by Chris.
And this was what was going on outside. Carter was doing his part ‘helping’ scoop some truffle scrambled eggs onto a toasted croissant, which also had slices of smoked salmon laid on it.
……and then carried the plate ‘all by himself’ (ahem) into the bedroom….
….followed closely by Hunter, brandishing his freshly-squeezed orange juice for me!
Back in bed, I was greeted by this sight. OK, scratch what I said earlier. I can unequivocally say that THIS did it for me – there is nothing cuter than seeing my toddlers coming in to greet me with yummy food! And with same super precious hopeful-happy expressions on their faces. Awwww!!!!!
Never thought I’d ever post a makeup-less, pajama’d, still-in-bed photo of myself on my blog. But I guess there’s a first for everything!!
Nom nom nom……
But it didn’t end there!
Chris got both kids out for a swim in the pool (it was a gorgeously hot and sunny morning), leaving me even MORE time to loll around in bed like a lazy pig. It was craaaazzzyyyyyy!! I mean, it was 9AM and I was still sitting on my ass in my bed. OH THE MADNESS. I’ve never done anything remotely like this for 3.5 years, so the experience was seriously OUT OF THIS WORLD!
I did feel a bit odd just lazing around in pajamas when everyone else was awake, but I got used to it pretty quickly 😉
Then the boys came back after their swim, and each of them had picked a fresh flower for me, proudly presenting it to me 🙂
And then we did some cake decorating! I baked two Buttermilk pound cakes with lemon drizzle (recipe coming later), one for Mum and one “for Nanna”. Both kids had a grand ‘ol time decorating it with rainbow sprinkles.
And this is my present(s) to my own Mum. Her Buttermilk pound cake with lemon drizzle was placed upside down, so I could ‘write’ the words MUM in rainbow sprinkles on top!
After that, we did a big family dim sum lunch! No Western, because it’s all either booked out or heavily overpriced during Mother’s Day.
My two little show ponies…
Greedy Carter and his mango pudding.
Molten custard buns, otherwise known as Liu Sha Bao. ARGGGHHHH so good!!!!
Dad took a family of us, but we forgot to take a big family pic. Grrr! But LOL at Hunter scoffing a huge amount of noodles 😉
Mother’s Day Dinner tonight was a simple affair, when we managed to scoot out after putting the kids into bed. A quick one at MU Parlor, one of our favourite go-to places for burgers and kickass milkshakes.
I had the best Mother’s Day!! It was simple yet indulgent. I felt really pampered and it was nice to be a lazy bum all morning 🙂
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you Mums out there. I thank God for a wonderful family that I can call my own, for parents that love me unconditionally (even when I’m really really annoying) and that will drop everything for the sake of my kids, and for a husband that was determined to make me be a lazy bum all morning.
And it’s late at night now and I’m exhausted. Good night!
That photo of Chris and Carter! OMG!
Happy (belated) Mother’s Day, Bev. 😀
Thanks sweetie 🙂
Super spoilt. Chris deserves a massive father’s day treat. He is amazing with you and the kids!
He says he wants the same thing for Father’s Day 😉
Sounds lovely, happy mother’s day B!
To you too hon!!
