Birthdays, Friends, Parties CHRIS’ BIRTHDAY BBQ 26 March 2013

So Chris is not one to celebrate his birthday.. what guy does??

But we used the occasion as an excuse to get a bunch of us together for a bit of a swim and BBQ. It started off pretty depressingly because we had a freakin’ THUNDERSTORM right when everyone was meant to be coming over. But, incredibly, the rain stopped after about an hour and the sunshine came out, so we just spent that time chilling out at home first before we all moved to the pool/BBQ area.

The kids had a great time splashing around.. and Hunter was so delighted he was swimming with his friends! I guess a guy is always pretty pleased to see girls in swimmers around him 😉

COWABUNGAAAAAA!

This is what daddies are for

At first, we thought we’d under-catered and bought too little food. But we ended up with tons of leftovers.. and I discovered MORE food in our fridge that I’d totally forgotten to bring down to cook up. Whoops.

Apart from Singapore’s dreadful humidity, it’s actually pretty fun having a BBQ outdoors by pool, with friends and kids. We so frequently hole ourselves up indoors (where it’s air-conditioned) that it’s nice sometimes just to do something outdoors.

My newly married gf!

Another gf brought these turquoise plates, cups and napkins. Does she have fabulous taste or what?!

All he got to munch on was his hand. Poor bub.

Hunter getting approached for a hug, and playing hard to get… tsk.

The food actually turned out to be pretty kid-friendly. We had satay which the kids loved nibbling on – I think Hunter had 4 sticks of it, much to our surprise (he doesn’t eat meat). And Mum whipped up her magic and put together a lovely portobello mushroom and spinach pasta, and tuna and potato cakes.. both of which were a hit with the kids!

Hunter ate a stack of Mum’s tuna and potato cakes, though he kept calling them “chicken nuggets”..

So delighted with their tuna and potato cakes…

…until Hunter had his snatched away by one of his gfs (who proceeded to laugh hilariously at him wailing in displeasure, LOL!)

Excellent beer holder, you got there!

We adjourned back at our place for desserts, and to let the kids play around. Both Hunter and Carter were epic-ly past their bedtimes, but both were well-behaved throughout the party (actually all the kids were, zero meltdowns – amazing!).

Chris insisted on “NO CAKE” but we snuck a candle into one of the cupcakes. Anyway, the whole show was more for the kids! Hunter was pretty beside himself in excitement over the thought of singing Happy Birthday and blowing out the candle, for some reason….

OMG OMG OMG A CAKE AND CANDLE!!!

Happy Birthday Chris. You are a Perfect 10 in my book, just like what the Scrabble tiles say 😉

In celebration of Chris’ birthday… Carter started saying “dada”. Not very replicable on demand, and I don’t think he’s really associated “dada” with Chris, but that’s just semantics 😉

He actually said it SUPER CLEARLY, and had me in shock. Grabbed my phone to video it, and he gave a very week effort so you can’t really hear it in the video.. but it’s kinda cute seeing him bop around in his cot (like he’s got ants in his pants), so I’m just uploading it here!
