Food reviews - Shanghai, Uncategorized GREAT BURGER DEAL AT MALONE’S 6 March 2010

Malone’s American Cafe
255 Tongren Lu
Shanghai, China

PRICE: ???
RATING:

It’s nice to escape China once in awhile, and you’ll find that in Malone’s American Cafe. It’s basically a big building housing a pub, but they serve up great food as well. It’s a fab place to chill out after work and grab a dinner and beer. The atmosphere also reminds me very much of the pubs in Australia, which is why I really like Malones.

The Malones burgers are normally priced at 80? which are really pricey to me, but now they have a “Any burger & a pint of Tiger beer for 50?” Monday promotion that is just flat out AWESOME. One impressive thing is that they do NOT compromise on the size or quality of the burger during this promotion – we thoroughly enjoyed ours. If anything, I find them a bit TOO more-ish! The burger patties are so thick that you’re left with a nicely-filled belly at the end of the meal.

My Mushroom Swiss burger is my absolute favourite burger at Malones. The soft bun encasing a luscious THICK beef patty that is juicy, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. The Swiss cheese is pretty generously heaped on top of the patty and there is also a very decent serving of sliced mushrooms on top. The combination makes the burger ultra juicy, meaty, and delicious. I LOVE it.

Chris’ Super Supreme burger is a fantastic deal because the regular price is even more expensive, but it’s still part of the promotion. It comes out piled high with… just about everything, it seems πŸ˜‰ A thick patty, with bacon, onions, jalapenos, egg, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, cheese. WHEW!! It’s tough to get it into your mouth, but Chris manages and declares it “awesome”.

Their coleslaw is a small portion in a little glass bowl and is fine, but could have been served with a little less sauce. I was initially disappointed that their fries consisted of only a small handful (I need a big bowl to satisfy my belly) but it turned out it was sufficient as the burger was so filling. The fries were a little overcooked as I prefer my fries softer, so next time I’ll go for the wedges. Options for baked potato or corn-on-the-cob instead would be excellent though.

Their portions are perfect for medium-to-big eaters, since the pint of beer also helps wash everything down. There’s a lot of staff there, so we were well attended to and they were friendly and prompt with our food.

Thumbs up – we’ll be back!

All this burger talk reminds me of another post of yours…also regarding burgers with some mouth watering pictures of it,,lol!

We have this restaurant near my place called The Daily Grind that serves “…….burgers”…I can’t remember the word πŸ™ Think of a word which is associated with “speciality”, “fine dining” , “unique” :p

It claims to serve hand made burger patties and it is SO SO yum as well!

Only thing that isn’t too yummy is their own brand of chilli sauce….its something to get used to.
