Since the entire island that the Shangri-La is on is just 3KM long (yet it’s the largest natural island in the Maldives, incredibly!), the mode of transport is either on a buggy or riding your own bicycle. The bikes are all tagged with each villa, so we were pleasantly surprised when we left our bikes down at the restaurant one evening, taking a buggy home, and the next morning the bikes were sitting right outside our villa! I suppose every day, some of the staff scurry around the island looking for deserted bikes, and ride them over to their associated villa. A nice touch 🙂

The weather in the Maldives is virtually perfect. Clear skies, clean air and a lovely temperate climate – so you can step outside in a bikini, or in a dress. Once my sunburn somewhat healed on my butt (it was sore for about 2 days and I couldn’t sit down properly!), we took to hooning around the island on our bikes, exploring all the trails and little nook and crannies. Wonderful, idyllic fun and a great way to waste time 🙂 It was lovely being outdoors because we tend to coop ourselves at home in Shanghai – and it’s wonderful to get some sunshine sometimes!

You genuinely feel like you’ve regressed back into childhood in the Shangri-La. There’s nothing to do, no responsibilities, and you’re totally cared for. So all your time is spent lounging around, bicyling around the island, and enjoying yourself. It is total bliss and makes going back to reality very very very difficult 😉
