Fascinated yet disgusted (with myself) that the Caucasian guy in the Starbucks queue spoke fluent Chinese when ordering, yet I had to order in English 🙁
This is not acceptable. Absolutely going for Chinese language lessons ASAP!!

Don’t worry, I’m sure your chinese is fine! Even so, chinese isn’t one of the easiest languages because of their tones! so dont worry, you will catch up soon, because you live in a chinese speaking country. You should be happy you’re not living in Beijing! they have weird accents!

Heh I wish it was, but I need to get a tutor in for Chris and I so we can start learning. You’re right though, I think we’ll learn quickly cos we live here, and we have no choice:P

Hehe, come on, surely you can spit out Zhong bei kafei moca (medium cafe moca) or Jin tian kafei (coffee of the day). Ask the staff to teach you, they were always friendly when I was living there.

The funny thing is seeing an Aussie succumb to drinking Starbucks, but it is some of the better coffee you can get in Shanghai.

Ah NOW that you say it, I’ll know.. but it’s really hard to suddenly come up with words myself, urk!
