All of us dragged ourselves out of bed early to get to the Good Living Grower’s Market – which is only open during the 1st Saturday of every month, between the outlandish times of 7-11am. We managed to get there by around 8:30am, quite an achievement! We were pretty blessed with clear blue skies and fantastic weather.. which I’m definitely not taking for granted right now because shortly we’ll descend into the cold dark abyss of winter. Okay, a bit dramatic.. but I’m really not a winter person!
Wandering around in the early morning under the sun does great things. Armed with hot coffees, we merrily poked our noses around checking out the myriad of stalls, and sampled enough goodies to constitute a full breakfast 😉 It’s lovely to be outdoors in Australia, and the outdoor markets are definitely the epitome of Australian laid-back culture.
We browsed around the various selection of meats, fish, cheeses, fresh vegetables, flowers, etc.. but caved when it came to the fresh pasta. I LOVE fresh pasta.. despite being frightfully and irrationally expensive, it really does taste awesome 😛 We bought some Saffron spaghetti, Parpadelle and Duck Ragout. Mmmmmm…

In the afternoon, we went to another type of market – the shopping kind! Paddington Markets just rock. It’s a long strip of retail stores and boutiques, and the actual markets are open only on Saturdays and feature great niche items, many of which are DIY and unique. Perfect for poking around on a lazy afternoon.

It was the first time I’ve gotten up that early to go to the markets too! It’ll be awhile before I attempt that again.. 😉
