Clearly targeted at the deep-pocketed folks in the Elizabeth Bay area, Gazebo Wine Garden might sound quite fancy, but still charms with its casual outdoorsy ambiance.. in true modern European/French style. It was a cool but sunny day, so nothing beat sunning ourselves sitting al fresco style in the Parisian garden area, sipping an assortment of wine and having a wonderful meal. I was delighted with the (subtle) music, a mish mash of easy-listening and Top 40 favourites.

The 300-strong wine list is presented in a thick binder, as opposed to the simple one-pager for the food πŸ˜‰ Just as well as we were having the Garden Lunch special during Good Food Month (which, coincidentally, falls in my birthday month!) which included a main with 3 half-glasses of matching wines. Service was so-so. Whilst polite, it didn’t have that certain edge to it that would’ve made it top-notch. The waitress spilled a glass of water over our table, and whilst wiping it out, did so too quickly and splashed the spilled water over my pants – without so much as an apology but merely a “can you please get up so I don’t get water over you”. However, the lovely weather and sheer delight of being outdoors and eating/drinking lovely cuisine was enough to make me a very happy girl πŸ™‚ If I had a wish, I would want to be able to have wonderful food and wine in the sun every weekend, for just one meal!

Crispy skin ocean trout, crushed chats, lemon parsley dressing
I loved this, beautiful texture and flavours. Fish could’ve been a bit more raw though.

Char-grilled rump steak with field mushroom mash, snow peas & bearnaise
Absolutely delicious. However the presentation left much to be desired πŸ˜‰

Chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, fairy floss and chocolate sauce
Very nice, but it was the sweet whimsical threads of fairy floss that made it special

Oh my goodness: like everyone else, I first thought that mound of fairy floss (cotton candy to us) was a clump of wig-hair. I reckon they should’ve coloured it to make it more fairy and less wig.
