It seems I find myself at La Renaissance Patisserie every 2nd week, their food is just too good to resist for long π It’s a little cosy French cafe at The Rocks, and looks seemingly tiny and uninteresting from the outside. But once you step you and view their display of cakes – you’ll be sold. Their desserts look so pretty they seem unreal, and one section is dedicated to their savory goodies.. with the likes of pies, sausage rolls and croissants.
Their savories are always, always divine. My colleague’s father is actually the chef there (he’s French!) and he says the meat in the pies are actually cooked/stewed like a proper meat dish at restaurants, then put into pie pastry and baked. We got the Beef, Leek and Tomato Pie and Dad declared it “very very good” – he normally hates regular meat pies cos of the dodgy “beef” mince inside.. but this one was just like a beef casserole/stew wrapped in pastry. It’s filling, delicious and very very good :)~
Also had a Sausage Roll – it’s a PROPER sausage roll, not like the crap frozen ones. Made fresh and with a delightfully buttery pastry, it totally explodes in your mouth with flavour. The best sausage roll you’ll ever find in Australia, by a long shot. Last was a Mushroom Quiche which was light, fluffy and buttery. It was delicious but nothing super-stand-out about it like their pies and sausage rolls.
Dessert was a Mille Feuilles. I CANNOT BELIEVE I’VE NEVER HAD THIS BEFORE. I guess it was because I’m not a huge fan of cream, so I’d always overlooked it. I’m glad I didn’t this time – the pastry layers were delicate and perfectly sweet but not overly-so. And the custard/cream was chilled, silky and out-of-this-world. One of the most delicate, delicious and non-filling desserts I’ve ever had. Most definitely going back for more!!
Be sure to sit outside in their courtyard if you visit, it’s tucked away down the back. The ambience is just great when the sun is out and the weather is warm. It’s great to just sit and have an (extended) lunch or tea with girl friends.

Yum!
Your blog makes me hungry. Where are the ferrets and fashion?
Re: Yum!
Hehe ferrets and fashion posts are around but less frequently than the food, and often on Friends-only mode!
I was down there a few weeks ago. The coffee was okay and cakes were scrumptious. All in all, quite pricey as it’s part of the Rocks tourist district. I wish they’d open a store in Newtown or Glebe. π
Yeah the coffee’s just normal, but the pastries and desserts are to die for. I reckon they should do a French duck confit or a French stew or something.. just more cooked French-style food!
I’ve experienced the french as a people and all I can say is I’ll settle for their cakes.
That’s a shame π The French place I went to last night was really brilliant, and they were all French!
I’ve dated the french. Let me just say it didn’t work out so well. I’m glad you enjoy their food.
It’s 1:47am, go to sleep. π
Hehe ok you have more, erm, upclose experience than me π
It’s 8:52am in San Fran!
You crazy executives and your jetsetting. Working over timezones is annoying. And posting over timezones is silly. Now I look like an insomniac when I’m clearly a drunk.
Best wished from Sydney. Now I sleep.

Hehe it was Easter-decorated for that week!
You’re making me crave their chocolate eclaires! And hey you live so close to the Rocks now, lucky you! π
Next time you’re in the area and want to meet up for lunch/tea there let me know, I’m always up for more French pastries π
Ooh everything looks delicious.. Must. Visit. π
Definitely, all their food is so good.. I reckon they should expand their menu to more cooked French food though :)~
