Went to Vivo City for the first time the other day.. the place is massive! And they have GAP! π We were really only there to pick up mum’s gown for the wedding, so I didn’t get to shop around π Fortunately, we did have lunch there and the food court delighted me – it was decorated rustic style and was all cosy and fun inside.
The best bit though? I had the Singapore Hokkien Noodles and just about passed out in bliss. By the way, “hokkien noodles” in other countries are TOTALLY NOT the same as this.. the authentic kind here comes with rich gravy with the intoxicating flavour of prawns. It comes topped with prawns and calamari and is a fairly simple dish, yet completely divine. It’s so tasty!! This place did it so perfectly, plus the sambal chilli it came with gave the dish that perfect kick.
Also had a bowl of Braised Peanuts, one of my favourite foods. The peanuts are slow-cooked ’till their soft and come swimming in delicious gravy. Fantastic to eat alone, or with some congee. This place did it well, the peanuts were really soft and the flavour really soaked right through. All washed down with some Iced Local Coffee (aka “Kopi Ping”) – delicious!

I must say, I’ve never tried anything like those foods before, but they all look so good!
One thing I’ve noticed from your posts, all the restaurants in the East & Australia are like stage sets and all so beautifully decorated – which makes the food that much more appealing! Here in the U.S. everything is pretty straightforward, you walk in and look at the food, end of story. It’s kinda boring! I’m an architecture major and I notice silly stuff like that π Makes me want to go visit there.
I never really thought about it! The restaurants in LA and San Francisco are lovely though.. but my fave is In-n-Out Burger, nothing beats that π
We don’t have many In-In-Out Burgers here on the East Coast, at least not where I live. But what we do have is Krystal’s, which sells absolutely to die for mini-hamburgers! They’re about 1/2 the size of regular burgers so you can eat like 10 of them at a time. You actually order them by the dozen and they’re sooo good.
I love reading your food posts! =D
Heh thanks, it’s fun eating my way around SG;)
Hey Beverly,
When are you back in Sydney again? I’m asking, coz I’ll need to ban myself from reading your posts with such delicious foods!
