I’m a big fan of Muslim/Indian food.. and it’s always so authentic in Singapore :)~ We popped by Anne’s Corner Food Place (a bit of a nonsensical name!) and ordered from the Muslim stall. The man and lady working there were soooo nice – all smiley and friendly and she even came round after we’d started eaten to enquire if we enjoyed the food. Talk about customer service! At a hawker-type place, nonetheless!

I ordered the Chicken Briyani which shocked me when it arrived. You can’t really tell in the photo but it came on a platter and had so much rice it could easily feed 3 people. Just 1 chicken thigh+drumstick came with it though, as apparently you order a side dish of more chicken or some mutton to go with it. The chicken was meltingly soft but I thought the rice could have had a richer flavour. It came with some thick creamy curry, which was fantastic mixed into the rice (maybe you’re supposed to do that to give it that richer flavour?). All topped with some cucumber relish and a crisp pappadum. Yum!

Also had some Mee Goreng – if you live in Australia (or probably anywhere else in the world), you’ll notice that this mee goreng looks nothing like what you’d find in Aussie food courts. That’s cos the mee goreng there is some strange dish that doesn’t actually exist in Asia πŸ˜› THIS is what proper mee goreng looks like! Stained red, accompanied by fresh cucumber and a drizzle of tomato sauce, and tasting completely different and very very delicious!

Resto Surabaya
Lucky Plaza, #02-63/64

Was at Lucky Plaza again and wanted to check out Resto Surabaya, to compare it to Ayam Bakar Ojolali (the restaurant above it), as it was also pretty crowded. The surprising thing was, it looks like an el cheapo place, but it turned out pretty pricey! It worked out to over $10pp, whereas at Ayam Bakar Ojolali, it was much less. The food was also touch-and-go, some was really good but some left us disappointed. Would I go back? Not a chance.. considering how overpriced it is for what you get.

The menu

Ayam Bakar (grilled chicken) (SG$5.00) – insanely $$$ for a small piece of chicken ;(
But at least it was tender and juicy!

Botok Tahu Tempe Telur (Beancurd, soy bean, egg wrapped in leaf) (SG$4.50)

It was an impressively-sized portion, which was great. But they didn’t warn on
the menu that it was insanely SPICY – so much so that I couldn’t eat it! ;(

Sop Buntut (oxtail soup) (SG$6.00) – the soup had a great flavour, but
the meat was weird and bony and not very tender.

Ikan Bakar Millenium (Millenium grilled fish) (SG$9.50) – this dish was lovely,
the topping on the fish was delicious!!

Telor Dadar (egg omelette) (SG$3.00) – most LUDICROUSLY priced dish ever.
It was just a blimmin’ egg!! It was nice though.

Koropok (prawn crackers) (SG$1.00) – these were nice, but so few for the price

Avocado Juice (SG$3.00) and Chendol (SG$2.80) – both were delicious
