Living in... Singapore, Uncategorized GOLDHILL VIEW, SINGAPORE 8 August 2006

Dad took me back for a visit to our house. It’s where I grew up so it’s dear to me and I have a lot of great memories.. from playing with the dog in the back yard, to having dinner parties out on the gazebo, to playing with my cousins in there. I even love the street name, Goldhill View. It’s a really gorgeous house, but mum and dad don’t stay in it at the moment since it makes more sense for them to stay in a smaller apartment. The previous tennant just left last week so we’re getting a new tennant in.

One thing about houses in Singapore is that they’re pretty squished next to each other. It’s because there’s just no space in the country, so most people live in apartments.. and you won’t really find houses like you do in Australia or the USA (or anywhere else, really) – sprawling huge houses at 1/10th (literally) of the price they cost in Singapore. Here, we have too many people.. too little space.

The outside. Oh yeah, all houses in Singapore have high fences and gates.

The corner of the living room

Looking into the kitchen

Upstairs. couldn’t be bothered to take pics of all the rooms

The garden at the side

Backyard with the gazebo. The 2nd (outdoor) kitchen is just to the left.

So that’s my house.. it’s where I still call home πŸ™‚

I think that’s pretty close to our old house. Is it a turn in from the caltex gas station along dunearn rd? We used to live on Goldhill Ave, it’s my fav home, dearest to my heart.

your house is lovely πŸ™‚

it must have brought back so many wonderful memories as you walked through the house and the yard…

*hugs*

home is where the heart is.

your house is the kind of home i would love to return to each day, and spend time in, with the family, friends etc. very well-maintained!

So true πŸ™‚ I def consider it more of my home than my current apartment in australia.. this place just holds all my memories

Your house is gorgeous! I love the gazebo. Looks like a really cosy place to hang out in the evenings. I am glad that you’re with your family right now to condole with them as well. Take care!

I still remember sitting at the gazebo.. it’s the best part of the house imho πŸ™‚
And yes, I’m glad I’m back for 2 weeks.. it’s good to be here

that is such a gorgeous house! i love everything about it, it’s so wonderful when you can still visit your childhood home

Ya.. I didn’t get to really see it during previous trips as there were tennants in there. So it was nice to be able to go inside and poke around πŸ˜›

This is a gorgeous house Beverly! I love the outdoor kitchen!

I’m so sorry to hear about your grandpa. My condolences to you and your family.

An outdoor kitchen’s really practical since Asian cooking gets really fume-y ‘cos of all the stirfries, etc πŸ™‚

Thanks for your kind thoughts as well

Such a pretty house!

I grew up in wonderful houses (we moved around a bit). I hope that I will someday have an equally wonderful place to raise my own kids.

My dad does a lot of work on it.. esp in the garden. I really like it as it looks different to all the standard houses here πŸ™‚

^____________^ I remember this house.

Had many fun memories of Shelly in the front, and that tent we would play in w/ Rachel. And sometimes Amelia would come play with us, she was so cute.

Please give my regards to your Mom & Dad, I remember that your Mom was always so nice to us, and recommended us to eat that… Royal Jelly thing too!

luv,
Steph

that’s a beautiful house! houses in singapore are nice πŸ™‚
the outdoor area is perfect for friends to come over for lunch πŸ˜€

so sorry to hear about your grandpa.. best wishes to you and your family

We use the gazebo lots for dinners and also just to sit outside.. I did my homework there after school and had my tea times there, I remember πŸ™‚

you have a very nice house! πŸ™‚ the flagstone patio is very nice and your house is very well maintained!!!

actually property prices in the bay area are comparable to that of Sg. horrendous yeap.

Thanks πŸ™‚ the garden’s my dad’s pride and joy, so it’s always looking neat!

And yeah, that’s true.. the Bay area is about the same as in SG – or at least i know rent’s about the same!

yes, it’s really nice! I am having my backyard landscape done with a flagstone patio so it’s exciting!!!

yeah, bay area property prices are the same as sg. in a prime area like palo alto (comparable to HV in Sg), you pay US$1.5million for a 1200 sq ft tiny run down house. or a hse in an average neighbourhood here, (equiv of thomson?) can go for US$800K for 1800 sq ft. brand new hses? dream on, not possible!!!

hope that you are hanging in there ok. hugs.

Great pics, your house looks really cosy and homely. I miss my house in Singapore as well, and hey we’ve got a second (outdoor) kitchen too. It’s funny how so many people in Singapore does that.

Hi, came across your posts. Sorry about your grandpa.

Nice house your parents have but just wondering how much your parents are rently out the house. Doing some research on rental as may want to rent a place for the kids to have more space to run around.

Thanks for the info. Will have to work harder for quite a number of years or may be I should go buy more Toto and hope I strike πŸ˜›
