You can buy timers that you plug into the wall socket and then plug any appliance into it. You can set multiple on/off times too.

You can get these anywhere like Kmart, Target, Bunnings, etc.

I was looking at those, but it goes on and off and I kinda want it on the whole time.. esp since those timers don’t really product if something falls on the heater.
The again, the timers DO save $$ because you can set it such that it ends up being on only half the time during the night..

Yeah, I’m definitely looking into getting contents insurance too.. never thought anything could happen to my home, but you know… :X

:0 I’m not an insurance agent but do check that you’ve life coverage, accidental death benefits coverage, health coverage and if possible, saving elements included in your insurance plan! it’s for the long-term. πŸ™‚

I’m a pretty heavy sleeper too.. but I guess your body just wakes up when there’s a ton of smoke in the room and it stinks like hell :X

Oh. My. Goodness. That sound like it was really close to being a real disaster… kind of makes me feel better about fire alarms – they are really irritating when they go off randomly, but how easily could they save your life? Wow.

OMG, that has got to be so frightening!! I’m really glad you’re safe, and yeah – Daddy’s always right somehow! πŸ™‚

I’m OK but my room is horrid and my clothes are stinky πŸ™ The smell makes me feel so sick, burning nylon can’t be healthy!

OMG you poor thing! luckily no living beings were harmed…

what did your neighbours think? πŸ™

i don’t know how your alarm works but with ours you can just open it up and take out the battery.. that should stop it! unless yours is wired into the building?

you should never use the small heaters.. including radiant overnight unattended! and for so many hours.. if you want one for overnight, get a oil filled column heater with a timer.. they are designed to be used for longer times and they heat up slowly and gradually so they are better suited for when you are sleeping rather than watching tv or something!

i get cold really easily too and my house is one of the coldest around.. so cold, we only need a small fan about 3 days a year during summer. it is beautiful in summer but bloody cold in winter! i don’t feel its cold enough to sleep with a heater yet but when i do, i set the timer for one hour on, one hour off..

maybe you could try pluggin in a separate timer.. but still.. it’s still too risky to leave a heater like that unattended…

Yeah thank goodness my mouse wasn’t in my room :X The neighbours didn’t wake up I think, at least no one came banging on our door telling us to shut up!

I have an oil heater but it’s huge so I put it in the living room.. might move it to my bedroom instead. I wish this radiant one came with a thermostat/timer though, ‘cos it’s actually really good πŸ™

How horrible! Glad you’re safe, even if your clothes are a bit smelly. =)

I’ve found a good way to stop smoke alarms is to grab something you can use as a fan (book, pillow, etc) and fan it really strongly underneath the alarm. Sometimes it goes off again later when it senses more smoke, but then you just run and fan it again.

Our smoke alarm often went off from mum’s cooking. =)

It’s painful how my clothes are all stinky now πŸ™ It makes me smell when I wear them too! I wish I had insurance πŸ™

*lol* I can imagine you fanning the alarm madly, hehehehhe!! Good point though, I didn’t think about it then.. just kinda stared vacantly at the alarm and didn’t do anything!
