The fleas are tricky… there are eggs imbedded in the carpeting (vacuuming helps but you’ll miss quite a few of the eggs, and at the rate they multiply eeeekS!)
You won’t know until you actually MOVE IN. The eggs dun hatch until people/ animals move in- the carbon dioxide we give out and air disturbance actually wakes them up. Then it’s feeding time- they feed on warmblooded animals or humans. Were significant in spreading the bubonic plague.
I hate fleas- I ended up with bites all round my feet (they wriggle through your socks), my waist (cos my skin was exposed between my blouses and jeans), my neck (even after a fresh shower I’ll just see them pests merrily hop onto my neck). I hate them as much as cockroaches!

Ack… so it’s just the luck of the draw – sucks if I get fleas in my place? How do I *know* if there’s fleas around though? Maybe if I get bugs in the place I can tell the owner and they’ll do something about it… hopefully.

Lived in a flea-ridden (in the carpets- no amount of flea spray and vacuuming helps these multiplying PESTS- I GOT FLEAS YIKES!!!) house with wonky water heater (imagine 3 second spurts of boiling hot water alternated with chilly cold water in WINTER), poor security (burglared during the hols)… but it was cheap rent.
You just gotta strike a balance… helps if your housemates are rich or good with their finances- you won’t want any flaky late payments (imagine you having to foot the gas bill cos it’s late, they’ve disappeared and you are the only one who HAS to stay there whereas they can simply go home). Or the shared house phone bill.

Ack! But if the place came without fleas.. it should be ok right? How do we know if it’s got bugs/fleas in it – ask? And how do we check if the water heater works properly? So many things that we have to look out for, but it’s so hard to find out without actually living there first :T
I’m actually concerned about the bill-paying. Ros works and does have money, so hopefully that won’t be a concern.. if so, I can be VERY very naggy and annoying when I want to be *lol*
