Yeah you can bake sausages in the oven instead of frying them or doing them under the grill. I have cooked them with honey and herbs (rosemary if you have it) before and it is GORGEOUS. Yum yum. And nowhere near as fatty and greasy as frying them!
Can’t believe that you are only now moving out of college into your own place!! Over here (England) you can only live in for your first year of uni, then you have to move out unless you are a supervisor. I’m in my 4th year now…love having my own house…

Cool! I’m going to get sauages and bake ’em then.. so I just smear honey and some herbs on them and that’s it? How long do I leave ’em in there for, and what would I eat them with?
Yeah, that’s basically it – except, make sure you use a fork to prick the sausages, otherwise they burst just like when you fry them! They won’t take long in a hot oven, maybe 8-12 minutes? Turn them halfway. And you can eat them with anything you like! I like them with a green salad but uh, you might not π They’re great with chips (fries) too…

practice makes perfect… *nods* π
yeah also wqith rice you MUST add exactly the amount of liquids they call for or else it will come out very dry and maybe burn.
Perhaps you can try to cook rice by using microwave (if you have one there), get those rice cooking containers as you can add in/pour out extra water to make it softer or harder while cooking.
btw, since u have been cooking, just thought that you might be interested to cook honeyed-soya-chicken wings. U just have to marinate the winggies you buy with honey and soy sauce overnight, and put them in the oven (medium heat) till cooked. I used to have that pretty often when i was staying out last time.
note: not too much honey, too much of it will make the winggies ‘burnt’.
I’ve heard about cooking rice in a microwave! Problem is that I have to buy those containers and I’m cheap π But I did it again last night on the stove, *washing* the rice first and NO salt added, and it turned out ok. Yay!
The honey soya chicken wings sound sooooooo good.. how much honey and soy do you use, and can I substitute the soy for hoisin sauce? (I have the hoisin but I’d have to buy the soy). I’m going to have to make those when Chris gets back cos we can make up a whole bunch and have them for lunch :)~ If we don’t finish them, can I just put them in the fridge and reheat them in the oven a few days later?
actually if you dun have the microwave ‘rice cooker’ you can always use any container which is microwavable + can stand the heat (as it will be in the microwave for at leat 10-15 min. If you can do it on stove that is alright, i dont like to keep looking at the stove to prevent the rice from burning, hehe, i am lazy …
I think the hoisin sauce will be alright too, just pour enough sauce to marinate the chicken wings (not too much if you want them to be marinated over night, they will absorb all of it), the honey is just to let the skin crispy, you can add in more just 20 mins before putting them into the oven.
If you cant finish them, i will suggest you to cook just nice for the amount of ppl you are cooking for. If not, the wings will be dry the next day when you heat them up. Anyway, you can always make some more if not enough, they take only a short time (within 30 mins, without supervision *haha*) to cook.
Wow! Your pic to the left is soo gorgeous, where did you get it?
Anyway, I’m going to make chicken wings the weekend Chris comes back.. I’m excited now, I love chicken wings and they sound yummy!
haha, yeah, i love the winggies π Anyway, if you want to see how exactly the winggies are (after marinated), you can take a look at Coles or Wool Worth (Safeway), they have those sold there. They have other flavours like Thai Chili, Satay Sauce…
btw, the fried rice you made, just a small suggestion: you can actually add in the egg lastly or fry it with the vegie when they are cooked, and then add in the rice so the flavour of the egg will be absorbed into the rice, can give it a try :). I always use luncheon meat to substitute the meat, coz they are salty enough and very crispy outside after frying them π
The pics are one of the character in Issey (a comic).
Hrmmmm.. they have them all marinated already for you? Do they cost much more? I may just get those instead and save me the hassle π
Good idea about putting in the egg with the rice so it’ll soak, will the egg still cook though? I just made it first so it’ll be like an omelette sliced up in the rice.
Yes, they marinated for you. Not very expensive, in fact, you can get them verrry cheap when it’s near the close time of the market, they will sell them for like 1 kg for AUD3 or something, 1kg will let u eat till drop..hahaha..
yes, with the heat egg will be cooked. egg will get cooked very fast, so you just have to add in lastly with rice, or just add in after the vegie is cooked. Fried rice need really high heat to fry, then only will be dry and nice.
Cooool.. going to get wings this weekend! And when I make fried rice this weekend, I’ll remember to put the eggs in at t he very last when I’m tossing the rice with the ingredients π
good luck!! π
You certainly have caught the cooking bug girl!
Ya! I’m *very* excited about moving out with Ros into our own apartment, ‘cos I’ll be able to cook anytime I want, and bake and whatever!
sausages
perhaps they were cooking the sausages in the grill section of the over? You can also cook them in a frying pan but they taste a bit more greasy. you could have sausages with grilled mushrooms and grilled tomatoes and chips. I cant think of any other recipies sorry! I usually only ever have sausages in a sandwich on sundays for breakfast.
Re: sausages
I’ve only ever had sausages in bread too, but they were cooked on the BBQ. I can just pop sausages straight on a non-stick frying pan and it’ll be the same right? I’ll have to make some one day for breakfast, with hashbrowns and scrambled eggs.. mmmm…
practice makes perfect… *nods* π
