’bout australians

Is it true that australians are biased against chinese?

Re: ’bout australians

Naw, not at all! I know with the whole Pauline Hanson thing it seems like it.. but she got voted out and everyone I know thinks she’s a moron.

Maybe if you go to the outback you’ll get racism. But in the city and with educated people, there’s none of it. For starters, I hang around Uni students and not one single one of them is for Pauline Hanson and everyone’s actually against her.

beverly! wow, i stumbled onto your journal from some random links here and there. and. well i dont really know if you remember me or not, cuz we were never really close. i only recall just saying hi to you some sunday mornings after church at zion. πŸ™‚ in all actuality, i feel kinda dumb writing this. well. um, this is holly! your (2nd) cousin. hehe. our grandma’s are sisters. hehe. oh yeah, to help you jog your memory, my brother is brad. i think he knew you and amanda and amelia a little bit better than i did. well. i did just want to say hi, and also. speaking of which, my grandmother passed away on tuesday, i dont know if you know. yeah my parents are back in town, and oh. hehe you do know we’re living in the US right? hehe. anyway, i look forward to talking(?) to you soon!.
love, holly. serenaded.pitas.com

Ooooh Holly, of course I remember you! The ‘net isn’t that small after all huh πŸ˜› Yeah I do know you’re in the States.. lucky you, where are you and how are you finding it? I heard about your grandma just before I left Singapore a few days ago – I’m so sorry about your loss πŸ™ Are you back in SG then?

heh πŸ™‚ yay you remember me, i would have felt so silly if you didnt. yeah, U.S is great, im on my summer break right now. and the “new school year” starts in like 2 weeks. im in highschool and my brother is in uni. yep!. yeah pretty sad about my grandma, but we didnt have enough $$ to have all 4 of us fly home. so only mom and dad went. its ok. no parents at home for a couple weeks πŸ˜‰
luv, holly

It must be great fun going to school in the States! I’d love to live there ‘cos they have awesome shopping and cheap shipping if you buy stuff online, hehe..
*lol* lucky having the place to yourself for 2 weeks too, don’t destroy TOO many things! πŸ˜›

blonde

I saw a really pretty asian girl in last months Allure – she did her hair and her eyebrows a light amber brown color and I thought it looked fantastic (didn’t look weird with her skin coloring)

Has anyone ever tried Urban Decay Special Sauce in “Glow”? I’m tempted to buy it – just wanted a recommendation!

Re: blonde

Light amber? you’re right, that does sound pretty.. Do you know which month it was? I want to subscribe to Allure too – it’s a magazine focused on beauty so I prefer it to stuff like Instyle which has more fashion.

The UD Glow special sauce is really nice! You can mix it in your foundation, or if you have an oily tzone, just dab it on your cheekbones to highlight πŸ™‚

digital camera

Hi Bev,

Could you tell me which digital camera you’re using? The photos look terrific~

Thanks πŸ™‚

Re: digital camera

Fujifilm FinePix 40i – it’s pretty good ‘cos it has really fine quality, and it’s also a video camera as well as an MP3 player, I love mine πŸ™‚

Re: digital camera

I’ve been thinking of getting a digital camera too. Do you use the mp3 function? How much does your digital camera cost?

Re: digital camera

i don’t use the MP3 player cos I don’t really listen to music outside my room anyway.. I don’t have a discman or walkman or anything either, never owned one cos I just don’t use it! But I love the video recorder and camera functions πŸ™‚ As for cost, I *think* it cost SG$600 but I bought it 2 years ago so it’s probably cheaper now..

Highlights would definitely be nice. I worry about wrecking my hair though, ‘cos coloring really dries it up and all…?

not really…
i’ve dyed, streaked, coloured, highlighted my hair several times already. since…1995?!??!

just use a good shampoo for coloured hair and don’t stinge on the conditioner. and using leave-in balm/serum helps too.

Hmm.. and I guess highlighting is not like dyeing all my hair too. Geez, now look what you’ve done, talking me into spending more money! πŸ˜›

go to a GOOD colorist. they make all the difference.

(i.e., stay far far away from price attack or other cheapo salons)

and have have some idea of how light/dark, what shades of red/blonde, and intensity you want.

eh must post pics when you do highlight/streak/colour/whatever!!!

Heh. I thought I could do it myself since it was just streaks. I’m gonna look through magazines and stuff first to see if I can find something nice I can take along.. if I decided to color my hair!

NOOOOOOO!!!! don’t do yourself!
streaks are actually fairly tricky!!

use 2 or more colours in your hair. is PRETEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
πŸ™‚

Actually, I bought this L’Oreal hair thingy but haven’t used it yet. It comes with this little brush that you ‘stroke’ the color on, and it gives permanent highlights – mine’s a brown shade I think. It’s supposed to be an easy DIY thing, and you can get a friend to just stroke the color down your hair. Think that’s OK to try out?

i tried that.
didn’t work for me.

1) asian hair is so dark you really need the blonding agent to see the colour properly. even those whose hair is dark brown and not black (like mine)
2) placement of streaks ain’t easy. which colour did you get?

but i guess, if you’re new to it, it’s as good a place as any to start!

Mmm… good point. What I’ll do is wait till I’m back in Singapore. That DIY kit is there anyway, and if I do go to the hairdressers, I’ll do it in Singapore since mum’s got a discount card and it’s cheaper there than in Australia.. but damn, I have to wait 4 months!!

aussie colourists seem better at doing blonde colours though. so if you’re thinking of doing light brown/blonde, you might wanna consider doing it there.
SG seems better for the reds.

While wandering around Orchard a few weeks ago, I did notice a lot of Chinese girls (and guys) who dyed their hair blondish like.

I really don’t get the whole Asian with blond hair thing! A few streaks can look alright, but dying the entire head blond just makes them look like they have some sorta pigmentation problem πŸ˜› I figure it looks good if you dye your hair lighter/darker by 2-3 shades, but anything more than that and it looks really odd. I just don’t think many Asians can carry off pure blonde hair.. if I ever dyed my hair I’ll probably get deep red or brown streaks in and that’s about it – I’m pretty unadventurous huh πŸ˜‰
