greymatter. πŸ™‚

you could just install greymatter on purerave (you have cgi access there, right.) it’s totally customizable and REALLY easy to install/use. (just chmod a couple things and that’s it) you could have it up and running in a couple hours, and that would sure beat writing your own code… (get it at http://noahgrey.com/greysoft) anyway, that’s just a suggestion…

Re: greymatter. πŸ™‚

OOOoooerrrrr… I’m gonna go check it out! I think I might register another domain and host my diary there – that way it’ll hardly ever be down and I get a funky url πŸ˜€

Hmmm…

Well, I use both diaryland and livejournal. Right now, I too am peeved at LiveJournals performance lately. And I don’t think that livejournal can really be compared to diaryland. You can’t even customize your journal unless you pay for an account at livejournal. I don’t like that. I like flexibility. Live journal is great for shorter entries, but not for those who have longer ones. You can’t even keep track of the entries as well. Ugh…I am starting to use livejournal as my weblog only. It’s not up to par for me. But, hey, that’s just me.

Re: Hmmm…

I didn’t pay for my livejournal, but I get to customise because I signed up last year. I think they changed their rules so that recent members don’t get to customise at all, except for that few templates they give. I totally think that they should let *everyone* customise though.
One thing though – the way LJ is set out (recent entries up the top) always confuses people. I constantly get emails from ‘newbies’ (especially around the time I switched) who had no idea that they had to read bottom up, and so my life sounded pretty screwed up. Heh.

Re: Hmmm…

Heh, that’s funny…Well, that bottom-up thing messed me up at first, too. But I’m used to it. I wish that I had signed up last year, cause I can’t stand the templates. Blah…

you just joined at the worst possible time. being an old school LJ-er, it worked fantastically the first few years. that was before it gained popularity and users grews to the overwhelming numbers it is now. you expect setbacks like this from a growing service. No doubt Diaryland would experience the same thing if it had the same amount of users Lj has. LJ just need new servers, that’s all. you gotta love the app. though! i’m merely on dial-up connection and i was like “wow”! when i first experience the speed of posting. and you gotta love how the developers actually LISTEN to you. well, most of the time…

I signed up last year I think, which is how I get to customise my account.. but I only started using it at the worst possible time, like you said πŸ˜‰ Hmm.. I wonder how many users there are here..

Swings and roundabouts. Okay, diaryland is more reliable than livejournal, but it has nowhere near as many features, for example personalising options, userpics, comments, ability to write several entries a day, and most of all the friends list (I wouldn’t keep an online journal at all if mine wasn’t friends-only). So it just comes down to whether you’d rather have a speedy but very simple service, or a more sophisticated, but slower one.
Personally, I’d rather stick with livejournal, and wait on the new servers. But it depends what you want.
