FOOD, Uncategorized CAFE JOY 12 February 2008

Headed to Chinatown after Church on Sunday.. and realised in dismay we’d just missed the parade. Which meant that all we got was pushing & shoving with hordes at people without seeing much at all! It was fun along the streets since it was bustling and crazy, but the main area (Dixon St) of Chinatown was grossly jam-packed with people. That also meant we pretty much didn’t get to see anything! Strangely, there were no little stalls along Dixon St.. I thought each year they have all these fun food/fair stalls selling stuff?? Either we were a week too late or it didn’t happen this year. Bummer πŸ™

Ended up eating at Cafe Joy, which was also packed but we were fortunate to score a table right away. I had the Tim Ayam, which is rice steamed with chicken and mushrooms. It was nice but not spectacular.. a bit bland, to be honest. Chris had the Rawon Soup with Rice, which is a sort of beef stew but in a dark broth. It was delicous!! The little beef pieces were tender and went superbly with the plain white rice. Mmmmm….

Happy New Year to you and yours “Down Under”. Got to go, your pictures made me very hungry with a strange craving for Chinese food. I hope I’m not pregnant!!! Bill

Argh… crowds…. kryptonite to my concept of a good time!

But did “Cafe Joy” live up to it’s name? Otherwise it’s false advertising!
