FOOD, Food reviews, Uncategorized RHODES PHOENIX WEDDING DINNER 11 December 2006

Saturday was another day/night out. This time, a wedding! We were all blessed with spectacular weather – sunny, blue skies and not too hot, which was a good thing since the wedding was held outdoors at Mosman over looking the water. The bride was gorgeous, as was her dress and the bridesmaids’ dresses. Just so picture perfect.

The wedding dinner was held at Rhodes Phoenix Chinese Restaurant. It was my first time there and also a very long time since my last wedding dinner.. so I was bouncing all over the place eagerly for it. Plus, it was also Chris’ first time at a full-blown Chinese banquet, so he was really keen on sampling all the food.

The banquet was sumptuous, delicious and impressive. All the loveliest seafood and such in an array of seemingly never-ending courses – all 14 courses. Couldn’t decide what was my favourite! Possibly the Lobster, but also the Fish. OK nevermind, I liked it all!

The tables

Table setting

BBQ Cold Cut Platter

Sauteed King Prawns and Scallops

Broccoli with Dried Scallops

Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab Meat

Braised Lobster in Supreme Soup

Sliced Abalone with Chinese Mushroom

Steamed Live Parrot Fish with Ginger and Shallots

Deep Fried Crispy Skin Chicken with Garlic

Braised E-Fu Noodles

Phoenix Fried Rice

Seasonal Fresh Fruit Platter

Red Bean Soup

Double Happiness Fancy Cakes

Wedding Cake

Take home present – pretty chopsticks

The 14 courses look like quite a bit but we weren’t very full afterwards.. so I gobbled down 3 bowls of noodles and fried rice and felt better after that. I think our stomachs have expanded from all the eating over the past few years, so it takes helluva lot to really fill us now πŸ˜‰

for some reason, i really like that group shot! Like everyone’s nicely positioned yet the focus is on the couple. and your dress totally stands out too! hehe!

Yummyy! Love your dress too!

Question — what school did you go to in Singapore? My coworker and his girlfriend both grew up there and went to an American school. He graduated in 96 i think?

OMG! That is A LOT of food!!!! You can really eat!!!
Even more cheena than our chinese wedding dinner… The double happiness fancy cake and wedding cake comes after the red bean soup?? I’ve never seen such stuff before!! From all the many many wedding dinners i’ve been to!

In Singapore, we already dun see much of those red napkins and I’ve never seen such a red wedding cake!!!! =p

I <3 the bridesmaids' dresses!

Did it start on time? You know how Chinese wedding dinners here NEVER seem to start on time right? πŸ˜› I agree that the food may seem alot but somehow we tend to feel quite empty still after the whole banquet! Did Chris enjoy it overall?

Haha NO! It said 7pm but the 1st course didn’t come out ’till 8:30… which meant I was nearly eating the table in pure starvation *lol*

Chris loved it all, even the weird cold jellyfish (even I don’t like that)

Awesome photos. That lobster looks to die for. But, I agree, it’s not much food at all when divided by all the guests. I have no holiday functions or parties to go to this year so am living vicariously through yours. πŸ™‚ Thanks!

The lobster was def one of my fave dishes.. esp since it came chock full with meat :)~

This was my last function, but I’m all partied out so I’m happy!

Mmm… I love big Chinese banquets! I went to a Vietnamese wedding at a Chinese restaurant and although the food was amazing, i also found it wasn’t very filling. It’s because each course is spread between about 10 people, so on average you’re only getting a few mouthfuls of each course! πŸ™‚ My family and I left the wedding still feeling rather hungry…

And the bride looks beautiful! I love her bridesmaid’s dresses! No ugly, horrible big bouffy satin things for them! πŸ™‚ I like your dress too!

Yeah that’s a good point, the food does have to spread around 9-10 people. At least the carbs at the end filled me up, and they were yum πŸ™‚

I loved the wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses too, so classy and gorgeous!
