I bet you’re really excited ‘bt seeing your parents! ๐
I’m a free-thinker, but was cajoled into an Easter celebration at City Harvest church many years ago. It was AWFUL. Mad singing & dancing and worst was when they stalked me and insisted that I join them in the cell-grp., etc. even when I firmly said no. It was such a horrible experience that I cried – not because of being spiritually touched, but cos’ of the terrible feeling from all that.
Love the Novena Catholic church where I used to go as a kid. Much more respectful and sweet. I loved the singing. But, to each his own. ๐
Ya, I think it’s a VERY personal decision when it comes to choosing a church. So personal that a church your parents/partner like might not be the one that you like. I’m still not fully sure of what suits me – but I think I like a relaxed atmosphere with some solemn hymns but also some more upbeat ones.. and a message that relates to real life. I also don’t like churches that impose all these rules that I don’t see the benefit of, or churches that PUSH you to sign up for things or give more $$ :X
Sounds like a nice church. A lot of churches I’ve visited are just fancy fashion shows under the disguise of worship. The congregation is more worried about what the pastor’s wife is wearing rather than what he’s preaching about LOL. Another one I went to had an ATM machine in the lobby so people can easily tithe :o| This is the same one that asked to see your tax return so THEY can decide on how much you tithe.
OMG that would be so weird, looking at people’s clothes at church!! I never really thought much about it.. but now that you say it, my church in SG doesn’t allow strappy tops ‘cos it “distracts” the guys ๐ I think the ATM one is funny, hehe
I think churches should be come as your are ie. jeans, sneakers and such but not to the point where you’re coming in halter tops like you just got done nightclub hopping and decided to stop by the church to get your repentance for what you did in the club LOL But I do prefer those lively services like the one you decribed.
BTW, personal question, are you catholic? I read solemn church service and automatically thought catholic or espicopalian (which I’m baptized as but I can’t spell it properly lol).
I’m with you – sometimes I just wear jeans and am super casual, but sometimes I wear a dress with makeup. I like a church that is OK with it and doesn’t analyse the way I dress!
I’m Presbyterian.. my church in SG is super ultra conservative so I’m used to very solemn hymns ๐
