Uncategorized MAX THE ELECTRIC MOTORBIKE 27 April 2010

We got an electric motorbike!!

They’re all the rage in Shanghai. It’s basically like a little Vespa, but using electricity instead of petrol. The benefit is that it’s really silent and re-chargeable, and anyone and everyone can ride one. It’s really easy to use, just twist the handlebar and you go zooming off!

We decided on a cute little number, with a bright blue finish. It seats both of us comfortably, so we can use it to/from casual dinners and on weekends. And soon, I may start riding it to/from work… because it means I don’t need my driver any more which will save a TON of money.

Chris hoons around like a pro, but I’m a real chicken. I can’t help but *squeal* like a really annoying little girl when I’m riding it by myself, and have my legs splayed out (instead of propped up in front of me). I don’t know why!!! I get so nervous with people around and there are a LOT of people, bikes and cars in Shanghai. Well, practise makes perfect πŸ˜‰

The bike’s name is MAX. Because it’s a lot easier than saying “electric motorbike” and because it looks like a MAX πŸ˜›

MAX in Carrefour

Wheeeeeee

Love the bright colour

Chris takes MAX for a hoon around the area

Riding home. It was after Boxing class, hence why we look so exhausted

Do u ride Max on the road or the sidewalk? You guys look so cute on it. πŸ™‚

I thought you posted once abt rushing for the bus?? Won’t your car be underused if you did away with the driver?

Half and half.. dependant on how many cars and people there are around haha.

Nah bus days are long over, I have a driver now. But he comes with the car so it’s no issue if I just stop him

looking really hot on MAX, I am sure if you were to go around with those hot pants and FM boots, you would be the one distracting alot of drivers and causing accidents! πŸ˜›

Just be super careful on that thing.. I’ve been in Nanjing for 3+ years now and my boyfriend and I have never gotten one because we know too many people who have gotten into accidents =/ Just know that Chinese people have this one rule while driving – if you don’t see them, they are not there. It sounds stupid but that’s actually the way they drive!

Safe driving! Oh and the bike is cute πŸ™‚ Have you seen the ones with the flower petal shaped pedals? lol!

I actually find it better to ride here than in Sydney.. cos there its not as common so the cars WHIZZ around, but in Shanghai they look out and expect riders! But we only use it for short distances so not too bad πŸ™‚

Ahhhh petal shaped pedals? TOO CUTE!! I doubt Chris would allow that though, lol

Wow that’s so cool! I’ve been seeing SO many of these around shanghai lately… Shame I wouldn’t be able to get one because my mom thinks that driving in Shanghai is just too dangerous… Not to mention driving a MOTORBIKE! XD

Looks awesome though. Hi MAX! πŸ˜€

Wei-Wei

Yeah SHanghai has more 2-wheeled vehicles than they do cars I thnk, haha. Well, I guess they use up less petrol than cars so it’s probably for the better!

Not in the last pic tho, teehee. Unless you’re into the whole sweaty-look thing πŸ˜›

But I love MAX, it’s awesome getting around on a bike!

Scooters here are the ones that you stand on and push off with the other foot though πŸ˜‰

we need a license to drive a vespa.. but this one doesn’t, so it’s easier/more convenient! I actually don’t see Vespas here.. weird..

It’s funny that you dont need a license for this coz operation wise it’s very similar to a vespa i should think? Merrill won’t be getting a bike here till we move out but man it sucks to think of wearing bike gear in Singapore’s heat. Anyway I’m sure you guys are gonna have lots of fun on it. πŸ™‚

Yeah almost identical! But it’s china so anything goes I suppose, LOL.

I think it’s uncomfy to ride one in SG cos of the heat… stick with your nice aircon car πŸ˜›

Weeelllll in China no one wears a helmet, whether or not that’s the right thing to do is another opinion entirely πŸ˜›
