Yan Yun Lou Restaurant (???) apparently was one of the first restaurants to sell Peking Roast Duck in Shanghai.. since 1921! It’s just round the corner from the apartment and our office, so some colleagues and I decided to pop in for lunch. It’s a lot fancier than I’d expected, lovely clean interiors and polite service. It even had English on its menu – woohoo!
The best dish, by far, was the Peking Roast Duck. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of the lots-of-fat-and-duck-skin approach, but this one’s different. They actually served slices of duck meat with only a small sliver of skin. The meat was really tender and moist, and the crepe it came with was soft and warm. Boy, it was fantastic! Absolutely delicious, I’m so bringing Chris back to check it out 😉
Yan Yun Lou Restaurant (???)
Chrysanthemum Tea, loved the flowers floating on the top
English menu, woohoo! Though with curious looking dishes
The nice interior
Gorgeous wall
Steamed ‘silver thread buns’
Braised lettuce – this was surprisingly good!
Xiao Long Bao!
It was good, though I prefer the interior sans veggies
Sweet & Sour Pork – delicious
The crepe, sauce and veggie shreds to wrap up the roast duck
Peking Roast Duck… OMG this was luscious
All wrapped snugly :)~

sorry to hear about that air shipping fiasco, it’s like shipping version of Murphy’s Law!
That duck is a winner.. can’t wait to go back now, heh. Maybe it’ll make me feel better from all this shipping drama 😉

Oh yum. Peking Duck!! I’m going to a CNY banquet tonight, this has got me wondering what we’re going to have. Mmmmm.
Ooo hopefully it features peking duck hehe, where you guys going?
We went to Emperor’s Garden Seafood in China Town. It was pretty good. Massive lobster! And whee! We had Peking Duck. Was tasty. 😀
The chrysanthemum tea is so pretty.
It was hey, I thought it looked so lovely, except it needed a strainer so we didn’t end up eating the flowers 😉

What are silver thread buns? Do they have fillings or are they just a fancier version of man tau?
Theyre like man tou.. just the steamed kind. These were so soft and fluffy!
