hey bev, where’s that beef brisket place? hopefully i can find it when im in HK in 09!
I have no idea, it was that took me. All I know is that it was next door to my hotel called Lan kwai Fong!
it’s on Gough Street in Central. it’s a hard street to find unless you know your way around HK…with a bit of luck, your cab driver should know where to take you…tell him “Gau Gei Ngau Lam Mein” and there’s a good chance he’ll know.
if not, here’s the best directions i can give: Gough Street is a short one, running parallel to Hollywood Road (a major road). tell them to stop you on the corner of Aberdeen Street and Hollywood Road, then walk AGAINST traffic on Hollywood Road till you see a wide flight of stairs heading downwards – if you look down from Hollywood, you can see dining chairs/tables of restaurants. that’s Gough Street. take the wide stairs down, then turn right…you should be able to find it quite easily.
hope that helps!!
Oh hey, thanks for the reply, appreciate it!!
I can tell already I would truly need a local to take me there! haha..

Beef brisket noodles and Wonton noodles are my all time fav. they are my ‘must eat’ list whenever I go back!:D but i always like them with ho fan noodles instead of egg noodles or rice vermicelli.
Actually quite a few people were having them with the hor fun noodles too, I’ll try that next time!

the boy would love this!! but me, I’m with you I hate tendon/cartlidge, never eat skin or fat that you can visibly see… its too gross for me.
I can’t even eat the tendon in chicken feet, and just recently started to eat a little bit of chicken feet.
Yeah I find the texture so weird, and even the taste isn’t that good…
I can’t stand chicken skin, so the whole concept of chicken feet is lost on me π
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm that beef brisket with flat egg noodles is MY FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE when I am in Taiwan. I haven’t had it in years…(15 to be exact) but I crave it so badly! There is just no substitution here in California. No restaurant ever comes close to the delicious noodle soup I had when I was 15.
It was gooood eh?! It’s not the same here in SG either!

What a crazy line up, it’s like waiting for a concert.
True, except we get abused for it π
OMG, I absolute LOVE “Kau Kee”! IMO, they have the BEST beef brisket noodles in the world!! I am not even a fan of beef but for “Kau Kee”, I will happily gobble down bowls of beef brisket noodles! We tend to go there during their off peak hours, to avoid the crazy Q & crowds. Oh of cos, never expect any service at such joints, be prepared to be verbally abused and just enjoy the food! hahahaha! I can’t wait to see more of your HK pics!
Totally agree.. they are so good, and I don’t even like weird beef tendon thingys! I can’t wait to go again π
Hi!
Care to share when their off-peak hours are? I would be hitting hk come Christmas π
Thanks in advancE!
there aren’t really any off-peak hours…they are perpetually jammed. however, the key is to get in line at about 8pm, 15min before they open, in order to secure a seat.
Wow. Bren would LOVE the Beef Brisket noodles. :P~
Gotta take him there if you guys go to HK… i am *definitely* going back.. mmm!
hahaah I love that you actually Wikipedia’ed it!!! and as per the commenter above, we should definitely hit up the claypot rice stores…waxed meats on rice, so comforting on a chilly night π
btw the place we had dessert was The Press Room on Hollywood Road. see you in Singapore!
I’m even more impressed that I remembered the name π
Ahhh so many more places to try out in HK! π
pei: I miss your writing!
awww! i’ve been horrid haven’t i…sigh. okok, must try and get back into it!
babe..You should get your friend to bring you to Miao Street aka Temple street for their mini claypot rice..omg..i am drooling jus thinking of it..
Ohh I”m not a huge fan of claypot rice though! But I’ll tell my parents, they love it π
Sorry to barge in on this, but is there any specific shop I should be looking for if I want to try the mini claypot rice?
Thanks in advance! ^_^
Bev: I sent you an email this after abt SG sales, it slipped my mind that you are in HK!
