happy birthday (sorry this is a bit late, being in china there was no lj!!! now for some reason there is…)
you are not stingy, western food IS incredibly expensive in shanghai/china. its because its so much harder to get and also cos they know that there are people that will pay that much. but splurging for a special occasion is nice!

Sounds like you had a FABULOUS dinner at Laris! I do enjoy the occasional fine dining, especially for special occasions 🙂
Yeah it’s nice to go fine dining.. I do like cheap hole-in-the-wall places too though, their food is often excellent!

What an awesome birthday dinner!
In Edmonton, there’s $100 entree that has kobe beef, lobster and shallots, and I want to try it out just to say I had $100 entree.
Wowwww that would be awesome to try, you’re right!
note to self: do not browse Bev’s blog when hungry!

Happy Birthday hon! That food looks amazinggg. Especially the truffles ;D
They were rich as anything, but so nice!
Happy birthday once again hun! Glad you had a lovely one!
B.T says Laris is known for their martinis too!!
Thanks hon! And yes, the martini was gooood. I like how it didn’t taste very potent 😉
Then I’m guessing you’ll love Morton’s martinis too 😛 Which reminds me, sigh, craving for the appletini and steak sandwiches..
Mmm dinner looked sublime! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Thank you hon!
Wow, happy belated birthday.
In a way, I’m like you. I can never justify paying A LOT for food. I think the difference between very expensive food and expensive food is very little, so much so that the price differences are not worth. But that’s me. Perhaps if I earn $10,000 a month, I wouldn’t say this.
Having said that, I think the food you all had looked awesome, and an occasional splurge is fine.
Very true! I often find LOADS of cheap joints that serve amazing food. i do like the occasional fine dining, but still feel all guilty afterwards for spending all that $$ 😛
Looks like a really lovely dinner! 🙂 I love your earrings – where did you get them from?
Oh they’re just random bow-shaped crystal earrings I saw when shopping in Chinatown here in Sydney!
happy birthday babe 🙂

Whoaaaaaaaa! That dinner DOES look awesome though! White choc and eggnog? Nom!
hehe Chris liked that one.. decadent!
wow to the $100 risotto! A friend of mine had a $60 burger in Tokyo, and I thought HE was crazy! 😀
I can see why it was $$ but still! Arghhhhh
Welcome home Bev! Dinner looked amazing … 🙂
Thanks hon! The weather here is *exactly* like it was in Shanghai.. so weird haha
