Popped over to Chinese Noodle House for some dinner over the weekend. Located in Chinatown, it’s really tiny, hidden behind a staircase, and is pretty hard to find. Still, it’s always totally packed with people, for both lunch and dinner. Most of the clientele are Asian, with a few Australians (probably ones that heard of the place through word-of-mouth).. mainly because the food is really really Chinese, featuring their famous la mian aka handmade noodles and lots of traditional dumplings, etc.
I’m a big fan of the place because the food comes lightning-quick and their la mian is just spectacular, you can’t really find anything else like it in Sydney! It’s really tasty and you can see the man ‘pulling’ the noodles right in front of you, so everything is super-fresh. It comes with some mince meat that gives it that kick of flavour, and slivers of cucumber for some freshness. Toooo goooood..
Chinese Noodle House
Onion Pancake – This was huge, we couldn’t finish it π
Beef Fried Rice – loved how they gave actual beef slices instead of mince beef
Combination Handmade Noodles – the STAR dish. Looks quite odd but it has the best flavour :)~
Looks like they’ve spiffed up the place a bit since I was last there. Still as good as ever I see. For good – and cheap! – Thai, I always end up at Thai La-Ong, 89 King St, Newtown. Starters is Tom Yum Goong and Deep Fried Calamari, the rest is up to you! Tell them the posties at the uni sent you!
Oo I’m never in the Newtown area, I wish I was, I love Thai!
Newtown has lots of ok-ish food, just 2 makes me drool – the Thai one and Clems Fried Chicken – CFC. Have you ever had pressure cooked deep fried chicken? Better than KFC, and more generous too! I’m going back for the potato and gravy now, forgot it. Eeeks!
No no no I’ve never had that!! So must try it now π
oo00oo.. i always wanted to try out this place.. it was shut a few months back and then always packed when we go.. my housemate bought some home and the combination handmade noodle is the best… and their dumplings and the sauce that go with it is too yummm!!!
Ya those noodles are their star dish , it’s fab!!

i love onion pancakes!!! mmm all that food looks so good. i haven’t had lunch yet, and it’s making me really really hungry (as all your food posts seem to do =P haha)
It came so big though, and tonsss of meat inside, we were so stuffed, haha!
haha.. i cooked some fried rice for lunch after reading this entry.. π wasn’t too good tho.. didn’t put too much salt.. :S
I don’t make fried rice that well either.. it’s harder than it seems! :X
The roof of the restaurant looks really cool.
Considering it’s just a cheap food joint, it’s quite weird it has such a pretty roof/walls!
I’d describe them as tacky rather than pretty, but I guess I can agree to disagree on that since the yumminess:cost ratio goes right through the roof at this restaurant. π
I love their pork & chive dumpling noodle soup. It’s absolutely perfect for all of the cold winter nights coming up in the next few months.
*lol* I thought the roof was quite pretty π
I’ve never had their soup.. ahh.. must have that next time!
