MEATliquor SINgapore

Situated at a corner block along the popular Duxton Road area, I’d always assumed MEATliquor to be a place catered for the edgy after-work drinking crowd.

It is, but now they’ve also rolled out a $12 Kids Combo selection that caters for families – especially handy for lunch or an early dinner with kids.

The interior is moody and neon-lit, with a super cool vibe. My kids stepped in and the first thing out of Carter’s mouth was “…….are we at a party?”

Snag the bench table (where we sat), as you get a large table space for kids to colour and amuse themselves whilst waiting for your food.

This is the $12 Kids Combo menu, which comes with a cup filled with crayons, “to colour in”. This struck me as really odd, as the pictures on the kids menu wasn’t that young-kid friendly or colouring-in friendly. My kids refused to colour the menu in, deeming the pictures as “too scary” 😉 So I flipped the menu over and they had a blank A3 side piece of paper to draw instead.

MEATliquor specialises in burgers, so the menu features Beef and Chicken burger options, as well as additional ones like vegetarian, fish, and hot dogs.

I love places that leave bottles of sauces at your table, so you can help yourselves. Better yet, MEATliquor has a whole role of thick tissues for you to tear off and use. Massively appreciated when we are eating finger food with 3 grubby boys!

The kids were kept amused drawing, but they didn’t get to for long, as the food came out really really swiftly.

This is the Kids Cheeseburger meal, with a USDA Prime Angus Beef burger, drink and side of fries. The burger had a very fresh and fluffy bun (LOVED this), as well as a juicy homemade beef patty, melted cheese, and lettuce (which the kids carefully picked out – ahem).

I thought this was actually a substantial meal for a kid, and probably enough for an adult with a small appetite.

Attacking his burger. See? It’s about the size of a MOS Burger or Omakase burger.

This is the Kids hotdog meal, which was a full-sized hotdog. It had that same lovely fluffy bun, and a juicy sausage, as well as lashings of tomato sauce.

The Margarita Prawn Cocktail ($18) was ordered because I thought it’d be nice to have something chilled with our meal. It comes out in a cute glass-filled cup, and is stuffed with a generous amount of prawns. They aren’t that exciting, though, but the salsa dip made all the difference.

I thought the Dead Hippie burger ($22) would have too much meat, since it’s labelled as “Double French mustard fried beef patties, dead hippie sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and minced white onions.” But the juicy USDA Prime Angus Beef patties are thin, so it actually blends with the rest of the burger very well. The mustard kick is not too strong, thankfully, and I would place this as a very very decent beef burger that is sufficiently filling.

I’m actually not a fan of sambal (I can’t take the heat), so I have no idea why I ordered the Sambal Fries ($10). It was obviously too spicy for me, so I skirted around the sauce and ate the fries as-is instead. I love the idea of egg on the fries (reminds me of our time in Barcelona!) but would have preferred the yolk runny so it doesn’t feel too dry against the crispy fries.

The Onion Rings ($9) were… EPIC. I didn’t realise they were onion rings for a second there! Large, thin slices of sweet onion encased in a crispy batter, there were 6 massive rings in the serving and the two of us couldn’t finish them.

We’d initially ordered the Monkey Fingers ($18), because we thought chicken fillets would be a hit with the kids. What we didn’t realise was that they come marinated and fried in homemade spicy pepper sauce – and it definitely is spicy! A non-spicy version of this would be excellent on the kids menu.

They are on the salty and more-ish side, so best eaten alongside a fresh salad. I enjoyed the blue cheese dip it was served with, which helped cut through the spiciness.

There’s ice cream with toppings ($3) in the Kid’s Menu, much to the delight of the little ones at our table! They’re really generous with the ice cream portion, and it comes with rainbow sprinkles on top to delight the kids.

I loved loved LOVED the Pina Colada ($19.00)! It’s served in a big cup, and topped with toasted coconut meringue. IT. IS. AWESOME.

If you’ve been to the MEATliquor branch in London, you’ll know there are loooongggg queues of people, all hankering for their burgers and drinks. In Singapore, go early to avoid the dining crowd – they open at 11:30AM for lunch, and 5PM for dinner.
