The Asics
Took them out last night for a spin – a 40min jog around the Botanical Gardens. When I got back, it was the first time ever that that my knees didn’t hurt. AT ALL. And I was jogging, I remarked to Dad, “Hey, these shoes feel bouncy!” but thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me. But later, a few people told me that those shoes really ARE bouncier.. so I wasn’t imagining it π Then today, I jogged for around 30mins in them and my left knee didn’t hurt at all (usually does a little) and my right knee was slightly sore (usually hurts a lot). I suppose it’s also because I’ve been running almost every day and need to give my body a break as well. But the shoes really do feel significantly better than my el cheapo Reeboks. I’d always thought a running shoe was a running shoe.. so I’m quite surprised that they can be so different. So is the $$$ price tag justified? If they last longer than 1 year, then yes π
Silk Road
Amara Hotel
165 Tanjong Pagar Road
Singapore
The usual gang got together after Church today and had a little pig-out at Silk Road in Amara Hotel. It specialises in the cuisines along China’s “Silk Route” and serves dishes that you can’t really find anywhere else in Singapore. It leans towards fine-dining and actually looks like a Western restaurant when you first walk in. The giveaway are the traditional Cheongsam dresses and the glass-walled kitchen where you can see the chef pull your hand-made noodles (aka “la mian”).
Silk Road restaurant
Inside the restaurant
Myself and
Their special Chinese green tea and some sorta herbal tea
Appetizers – pickled veg and tofu & braised peanuts
Sliced pork in spicy sauce
Thought I wouldn’t be a fan of this, but it was nice!
Man Tou (aka fried buns)
Always a favourite of mine, crisp and deep fried on the outside!
Eggplant in sauce
Sounds simple, but it was so delicious, esp with the Man Tou buns dipped in it
Peking Duck
Needs no explanation.. unfortunately can’t really see it! SO GOOD :)~
Xiao Long Bao
One of my fave foods. It was delicate and silky – just divine!
Filled with juicy minced pork and liquified fat (it’s good, trust me)
Snowflake Dumplings
Sooo yum.. the pork inside was all moist and juicy!
The chef pulling our noodles
Our pulled noodles (“la mian“) with tempura prawn
This was s-p-i-c-y!!
Dumplings with seafood
Didn’t try this but everyone thought it was a bit strange π
Deep-fried sweet potato dessert
Deep-fried red bean pancake
Some fun snacks from Dubai, a gift from a family friend
hee, how long your shoes last is not the time but the distance ran – the general rule of thumb is to change rules when it has covered approx. 500 miles or 805 km.
yummmy food pics!!!
I guess I’ll feel it when it starts wearing down? LIke with my reeboks I wore them TONS and could feel it getting really ‘flat’ if that makes sense. That, and my knees hurt π
eh yeah but might be abit late already so be careful! π
Bev, glad to know that the shoes are working out! Yes. they ARE BOUNCIER! its the new shoe syndrome. ;-9
and one more thing. shoes don’t really LAST a year. you measure the life span or what i call Efficiency but you can call it MOJO (!!!), is relative to how far and often you run. Bottom soles wear out, threads fray and soles can come apart from the body of the shoes.
i think i read somewhere that a good mileage from Kayanos are 2000 kms. but i might be wrong. try http://www.runnersworld.com.au
I’m gonna go shopping in the City tomorrow and I’m going to wear them so I can shop and NOT drop – haha!! I hope the last agggges

Mmmm yum!
And asics are really good! They definitely last more than a year! My dad had them for quite a number of years with serious running before they fell apart. Mine’s almost 1.5 years and still going strong! π
Oh yay! I hope mine last then. But I jog on roads so it may last shorter than if I jog on grass.. well, we’ll see. They’re lovely so far π
hey you shld put a price range on all your foodie posts! π
one thing abt the kayanos tho, they’re terrible for dance based aerobics classes. can’t spin or pirouette for nuts in them! too much grip!
Thanks for the suggestion – I just put prices on my latest post and I’ll try to for my future posts (assuming I remember the price!) Is that what you mean?
Heh good to hear they have grip.. will be safer for me when I jog on the roads. I don’t do dance-y classes, fortunately!
yep, like $$$ out of $$$$$ or something similar. or rough cost per pax. π
yeah they’re great on the roads. even on slightly damp (not sopping wet) surfaces they’re good.
you DID get good running socks to wear with the shoes right?
I have Nike running socks but they’re thick and cotton… going to go out this week and get a drifit pair I think π
with all the running you’re doing, you might wanna consider getting Thorlo running socks. they’re padded in the right places so they’re really good for the feet.

Ohhhh thanks for the link! π
Looks good. Why didn’t they have this sorta food at the Singapore national dinner last Sat! The food was so… bad!
Oooo what kinda food? you should’ve taken pics π

I think I saw you with your dad and your aunt/mum in your jogging attire @ Botanic Gardens. You guys were stretching/resting near the restrooms at the end of the symphony stage. I’m the girl in a brown tank and demin shorts if you notice. You looked radiant and really fair!
Oo yes I was with my dad and aunt! We were all sweating like piggies though, so exhausted, hehe. Did you see the concert? We also picked up these Tiger Balm samples – they’re SO good on my muscles after running, I sampled them!
yeah, I was there since noon, pinicing with my friends.
The chinese orchestra was great!
hi bev
a running shoe should last between 300-500 miles (480-800KM). so if you’re running a lot it should take a lot less than 1 year for the shoe to wear down.
Ohh bummer! I run about 10-12km a week.. so it doesn’t work out that long according to your calculations π
oh that’s not too bad; it should last for a year, actually (52 weeks in a year, say 520-650km in a year then). just don’t use running shoes for anything else (even walking) and they’ll serve you well, for longer π
Yummy! I’m craving dim sum right now and it’s only 6:30 am! Sounds like a good breakfast to me! Hehe… *^^*
Oooo yes, they make such a good breakfast! Or rice porridge.. yum π

I’m glad you like the Asics-Kayano! You and Andrea are really convincing me to try them.
Yum, everything looks so good, as always. I love dumplings!
I find the price kinda ludicrious.. but as my dad said, you can’t put a price on our health and body! So if they def make my knees feel better, I’m all for it π
go for it juicymary!
LOL ! love your nick!
hmmm. i love soup buns too. you gotta try joe shanghi if you’re ever in NYC…hmmm…getting hungry now…
I SO want to make a trip to NYC! But it’s sooo far away from me π
As usual, your post has left me feeling very hungry!!!
That eggplant dish looks nice.
Coming from a veggie hater, I like eggplant.. I like it sliced on pizza too!
Eggplant is great! When I was in Italy my favourite pizza was this one called “ortolana” and it was vegetarian and it had eggplant and zucchini on it! Mmm…
Also I noticed Singaporeans seem to like to fry things a lot! We eat man tou as well, but always the soft, white, steamed ones…
And I love xiao long bao! It’s so hard to find really good ones in Australia. You have to go to an Asian country for that!
Yes, SG’eans deep fry everything – it’s really unhealthy :X But it tastes good!
Yeah in AU they have xiao long bao but it’s like the crude version.. all wrong π

Those 2 dishes were my fave I think, so yum :)~
Dinner tomorrow at the Thai restaurant near my office! Tell your parents ok? All ok on my side except Che.
Yummers. It’s a (mass) date!
