We
It’s located in Mikrolimano, a huge yacht marina that’s lined with seafood restaurants, all overlooking the beautiful harbour.
It was first discovered by my father-in-law, who brought us there when we were in Athens. If you’re after laid back dining with a beachy island feel, THIS is the place to go. The decor is cottage-chic, all decked out in vintage white woods and offset by bright blue accents. It’s DIVINE!
As expected, we kicked back with a jug of chilled white wine, which we sipped on as we looked at the sparkling waters and bobbing boats. This is the life!
With an impressive menu featuring more than 100 dishes, it’s actually pretty hard to decide what to order! We stuck with a lot of what my father-in-law recommended and it was all brilliant.
The tzatziki is laced with lots of garlic, giving the dip a fantastic kick. Interestingly, both kids liked dipping their food into this, so I guess they like their garlic.
I really liked the steamed mussels, which was done simply and beautifully. They were steamed to perfection, and very succulent. The broth gave a tasty kick of flavour to the mussels and the portion size was substantial.
This, below, was PURE INSANITY.
It’s cheese, deep-fried in a cornflake batter and dusted with black sesame seeds, drizzled with honey, and served with a shot of ouzo (alcohol) that you drizzle over the top.
WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?!?!?!?!?
*faint*
And here we have, clockwise from top-left:
- Greek Salad – so simple, but incredible in Greece. I suppose it’s their super fresh ingredients, that elevates a boring ol salad (ie. something I’d never even bother wasting stomach space on) to something that I was eagerly looking forward to every meal.
- Fried calamari – the squid in Greece is also really bizzarely amazing. Forget what you know of chewy squid, the ones here are all tender, juicy and packed with flavour. All they need is a very light smattering of batter and flash frying and voila! Fantastic appetizer. The kids ate a lot of calamari in Greece! It was that soft and tender.
- Pork tenderloin with fried potatoes – I wouldn’t have ordered this on the menu, but my father-in-law highly recommended it. I’m glad we got it, because it was delicious! The pork was very tender and juicy with flavour, so both kids gobbled it all up. I really liked the pan-fried sliced potatoes, and the whole plate was doused in honey. How unusual and yummy!
- Bread – OK fine. Not that exciting but deserves a mention because I love any place that serves complimentary bread. And a big portion at that, it came in a wooden crate!
It was a pretty sight looking over the water, the yachts, the seagulls (not the annoying kind in Australia that accost you for food!), the fish in the water… we spent hours there 🙂
They even served complimentary limoncello shots! Any place that serves free alcohol is completely amazing in my book.
And check out this ridiculous gigantic plate of freshly-cooked donuts with hazelnut chocolate and icing sugar!! I’m not sure why Carter looks wholly UNIMPRESSED here, because the little dude ate a bunch of these (as did Hunter).
Made to order, these arrive piping hot at the table. There were 3 adults, so I’m not sure why we ended up with 8 donuts.. but when we checked the bill it was only a few euro, so we didn’t bother fussing.
They were AMAZING!!! All soft and springy and moist, and the drenching of the hazelnut chocolate was tops. I could only eat two donuts though – they were soooo rich and sweet! And I was already ultra stuffed from our meal!
Just a random pic of Hunter, playing with his plus-plus toy. It’s a brilliant invention and keeps him occupied (ie. quiet) for ages at the table.
