Chris had a boys night out at Smokey’s BBQ & Grill awhile back, and told me we really have to go back as I’d love it.

Well, my husband really does know me 😉

Smokeys’ pride themselves as an authentic American barbecue grill house, and the menu is enough to leave me quivering with excitement. Though, who am I kidding, there may be tons of options the menu but I’ll never get past ordering……. RIBS!!!!

Just the thought of a big platter with a stonking big hunk of ribs smothered in sauce is enough to excite me to no end.

I like how the eatery is open-air, and very casual and spacious. Perfect for hanging out with a group of friends over a hearty meal and beers, which is exactly what we did.

We kicked off with the Buffalo Wings with homemade blue cheese dressing. The wings weren’t very big, but were juicy and tender. Their hot wing sauce (ours was the default setting), though, was a KILLER. No one else seemed to mind and said it wasn’t very spicy, so I guess I’m just a bit of a weakling as I can’t quite handle spicy food…

But at least I could wash it all down when a KICKASS Brothers toffee apple alcoholic cider!! Served icy cold with a glass full of ice, this really hit the spot. I loved it. Wish it was more prevalent around Singapore as I want a bottle again!

I really loved their Mozzarella Sticks. There were only 4 small ones in a serving, which was waaaaayyyy too little IMHO as I’ll eat all 4 of them myself. But they were terrific! Very crisp and crunchy, with molten gooey cheese inside. This would have been really lovely served with a chilled salsa IMHO.

Everyone liked the Jalapeño Poppers stuffed with cream cheese but I’m really not a fan of jalapeños so this was a no go for me. It seems to be a popular dish though, most tables ordered it!

The Grandpa Joe’s Backyard Burger is pretty pricey at $19 but the patty is delicious. It looks pretty uneventful and dry in the photo below, but the patty was actually really juicy and full of flavour. I liked how it was served open-faced, so the veggies remain fresh.

The Pulled Pork Sandwich wasn’t too sweet, and the sauce comes in a dollop at the top, so you can scoop off any excess if you prefer it less sauce-y. It was pretty good, and the meat was nice and tender.

Their Smoked Baby Back Ribs are… AWESOME. One of the best I’ve had in Singapore. I like Morganfield’s too, but I think this one is a bit better! GOOD GRIEF IT’S GOOD. The meat is very tender, but still has a slight bite to it. It has a very full bodied smokey flavour and the sauce isn’t too heavy. It was basically perfect, IMHO.

Only problem? The half slab portion is too small!!!! To give you an idea, Chris and I ordered the full slab portion, plus the burger… and shared half-half. THAT filled us up. So you’d basically need to order the full slab if you eat the dish yourself… if not, be prepared to go raid your dinner partner’s plate 😉

Desserts fell somewhat flat. The Chocolate brownie was served warm and was good, but nothing spectacular.

The Oreo and peanut butter pie sounded so exciting, but lacked flavour. Furthermore, it’s an ICE CREAM PIE, which we didn’t realise. When I ordered, the waitress actually asked me “Do you want to add ice cream with it? Most people do.” GOOD THING I SAID NO!!!!! I was completely shocked when I realised it was an ice cream pie. To me, it was just blatently trying to up-sell me to pay extra for something (more ice cream) that was utterly redundant and nonsensical.

When I pointed that out to her later and asked why she tried to sell me additional ice cream on an ice cream pie (duh), she dithered around and said “Ohhh….. well, some people like a different flavour of ice cream to go with it”. That made me laugh. You mean the different flavour of vanilla ice cream to add to a vanilla ice cream pie? LOL!

I guess I just get a bit miffed when people try to make me spend money for no legitimate reason.

But apart from the desserts, I really enjoyed our experience at Smokey’s. It was nice to sit outdoors and chill out and have a beer… and chow down on some killer food.

I’d go back for those fantastic ribs anytime!
