Barcelona, FOOD, Uncategorized EUROTRIP: FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD IN BARCELONA! 8 September 2010

Here are some more random photos of local food in Barcelona. Boy, it’s a good thing we don’t live in Barcelona. I’d be the size of a freakin’ HOUSE. And then some. I found it absolutely impossible to “cut back”, the food was just too amazing. A lot of it uses the simplest of ingredients, so we couldn’t understand how it could taste THAT good. But that’s Barcelona for you – the food is simple and basic, yet packs such a amazing taste it leaves you scrambling for me.

Plus, the tapas style dining meant we could order lots and lots of little plates and try out many dishes. However, we ended up with so many dishes we liked that we kept re-ordering them at various restaurants πŸ˜‰ Surprisingly, food in Barcelona is cheaper than in Paris. Fantastic, because we could eat lots and not hurt our wallets. How does it compare to the food we had in France? Hard to say which one’s better! I like the richness and buttery-ness of French food, but I like the small tapas-style of Spanish food. I think I’ll just have both, thanks πŸ˜›

Just a little movie Chris took of a tapas restaurant we were in,
and me chomping away in a very un-ladylike fashion (OOPS!!)

Chris enjoying his ice cold Spanish beer

Another version of Pa amb TomΓ quet (tomato & garlic-rubbed bread)

Delicious mushrooms

A whole plate of ham, none of which I could eat πŸ™

Pork loin

Little cheese croquettes

A simple sliced tomato and mozzarella salad

Anchovies and tomato on bread

Spanish paella! Ohhhhh luscious…..

Another yummy Paella

Of course, Patatas Bravas!!!!

Yet another Patatas Bravas :)~

Chipirones, those delicious deep-fried mini squid I adore

Yet another favourite dish (yes, we had a LOT of favourites, I know… I TOLD you food in Barcelona was freakin’ awesome and riiiight up our alley!!) was the Bikini. It’s basically a toasted ham & cheese sandwich. Yes, we have ’em in Australia as kids, but they completely suck in comparison. Perhaps it’s because they use their local Spanish ham and cheese that makes all the difference? Then again, you can’t really go wrong with carbs, fat and meat, can you? πŸ˜‰

Bikini – a toasted Spanish ham and cheese sandwich. We ate this at almost every meal too πŸ˜‰

Another Bikini! This one we stuffed with some garlic mushrooms

This Bikini was stellar ‘cos we added grilled onions!

YUMMY!

Haha, that video was too cute!!! πŸ™‚

Also, can I just say (hope I don’t creep you out…) that your boobs look amazing!!! I want to be pregnant too if that’s what happens to them!!! Hahahaha πŸ™‚

The video of you eating is so cute. Haha.

Gosh, your travelogue makes me HUNGRY! I’m seriously considering doing a Eurotrip too! Perhaps when you return, you can share your itinerary? πŸ˜‰

Yeees you totally should go, you’ll love it! My posts are in chronological order so that’s the itinerary already, it’s basically all that we had/used πŸ˜›

ah…
now i understand why you told me in a previous comment that i should try to make it down to Barcelona too.
heh.
the food looks oh-so-yummy-licious!
i think if we were to include Barcelona in the trip, my husband would have to roll me back to Singapore! hahahahaha…. πŸ˜‰

Ooh that all looks so delicious! The food in Spain is the best in the world – I did marry a Spaniard and lived there/frequently visit though, so I guess I’m a bit biased. Your market pics are incredible, too. I really need a trip back to Spain soon!

Just to comment on two of the pictures that you labelled as ham – the first one is not actually ham, but a very thinly sliced “embutido” (or sausage) called lomo. It’s pork loin, but not the famous ham (jamon) of Spain. The second one is ham, called lacΓ³n, which is a cooked ham. I looooove all the pork products of Spain, and lomo is one of my favorites.

If you loved the food in Barcelona, you really need to plan another trip to Spain to include Madrid and San Sebastian in the northern Basque Country. San Sebastian has the best and most exquisite tapas in all of Spain! And Spain is a great family vacation destination! BTW, Spanish women do not stop eating cured meats or sausages while pregnant. They eat so much of the stuff it might very well be a bigger shock to their systems if they stopped. πŸ™‚

I haven’t been by your blog in a long while and wanted to say congrats on your pregnancy! (I’m a fellow China expat who used to comment here sometimes.)

You lucky girl! You have him to talk to all the locals in Spanish, makes it sooo much easier IMHO than us struggling away

You’re right about that ham being pork loin – so sharp πŸ˜› It was funny, I saw “pork loin” and thought it was cooked slices of pork, so I ordered it. I tcame out and we were like “errrrr….?”

I heard San Sebastian is good, wish we had time to go! And we wanted El Bulli too but they were fully booked πŸ™

I had mushrooms like that when I was in Barcelona and I loved them too, even though it was so simple and I don’t normally like mushrooms. Your entries make me want to go back to Europe and just eat.

Not sure how they make them so tasty.. perhaps lots of fresh garlic and herbs, and their Mediterranean olive oil or something?
