FOOD, My recipes, Uncategorized HOMEMADE WAFFLES 26 June 2010

We decided to whip up some waffles for breakfast since it is so freakin’ easy, and we have all the ingredients at home already. Better yet, Chris had brought back some 100% maple syrup from Canada (he was stopping over last week on his USA business trip)! I can’t stand the “maple-flavoured” syrup, what’s the point?

These waffles are so so so easy to make, and with easily-found ingredients in your kitchen. You can see the pictorial recipe here. Mere minutes later, we had piping hot, fresh waffles… that were all delicately crispy on the outside, yet soft and moist on the inside. Exactly the way we love our waffles πŸ™‚

Homemade waffles with pure maple syrup, salted butter and sliced bananas

Moist on the inside, crisp on the outside = perfection

This is a great recipe, I use it too πŸ˜€
When my hubz+I got married and got a super fancy Belgian waffle iron as one of our gifts, we ate waffles all the time lol. With honey, ice cream, powdered sugar, syrup, etc. (Not all at once! haha)

ooo lucky you, I bet that waffle iron is awesome! Ours is a multi one, it’s a grill, toastie maker, waffle maker ,etc.. you just swap the hotplates. It works for us so at least I’m happy, hehe

Looks delicious! What recipe do you use for your waffle batter? I forget how great maple syrup is until we go to the States or on a cruise and it’s like nasty corn syrup or some Smuckers syrup that nothing like maple syrup!

Where did you husband stop by? Toronto or Vancouver is the usual quick stop for businessmen.

I’m glad you appreciate maple syrup because there is nothing like it. There are different grades, did you know – I think darker is more impure and lighter is the purest. And I can now buy organic syrup even in Safeway!

Tell Chris to also pick up maple syrup candy and maple syrup BUTTER next time. They just keep cooking the syrup until it’s thick enough to jar as a spread – sooooooo good on toast – and it’s pure 100% maple – just sweet as all heck. The candy is like the consistency of dry fudge – usually shaped into little maple leafs – again, 100% pure syrup.

Oh, and the waffles look delish!

He was in Vancouver.. I love Vancouver, it’s so much like SYdney πŸ™‚

I didn’t know that lighter is better, I’m going to keep an eye out for that now! He also got these maple syrup cookies with chocolate yummmyyy… Is the butter just used as a spread on toast or are there other uses? i want some now πŸ˜›

There’s no fat mixed into the maple butter, it’s really just thick syrup – so anything you can use syrup for, you can use the butter.

If you were making a maple icing for a cake, it’d probably be easier to mix the maple butter into the fat – less runny and watery but lotsa concentrated flavour.

Of course, the other use is to simply eat it out of the jar with a spoon…not that I would every do anything so declasse! *cough*

I won’t call it the same, but it’s pretty close, since Vermont is geographically close to areas in Canada that make maple syrup as well πŸ™‚

I agree!! It’s unfortunately $20 bucks a bottle here in Shanghai cos they always rip you off for imported products, but oooh it is so good…

Oh my gosh SO delicious! I don’t think I’ve ever had REAL maple syrup before… “pancake syrup” is all I have, and I think it’s tasty. I might change my mind if I do taste real maple syrup, though πŸ˜‰

You can get it at City shop, but not at Chinese grocery stores πŸ™ I much prefer it cos it’s natural too, I worry the flavoured stuff is full of weird chemicals!
