It was my lovely colleague’s birthday yesterday, and whilst it was Friday the 13th, we made sure that it was anything BUT unlucky and bad π I got her a little personalised notepad and a foil floaty balloon for her desk, and a few of us pooled together to get her a Cartier pen – all pink and silvery with a little Cartier heart charm! Eeeee! I think the packaging was almost as cute as the pen itself π
For the birthday lunch, we headed down to Kobe Jones – the perfect restaurant for a smart-casual ambiance with impeccable food. Since their renovation, they’ve gone really moody, dark and funky at night.. which is fun, but it means I can’t take any photos π A shame, because their food is so beautifully presented! Fortunately we didn’t have that problem at lunch, since it was bright and sunny. Which meant photos galore π The renovations are definitely a step up – the ornate gold, red and black decor is seductive, especially at night, where the place seems like a very cool opium den π
Food and drinks arrived quickly, and our waitress was really sweet and friendly.. but could have been a little more switched on – for example, asking proactively if anyone wanted a second drink, proactively giving more spoons with the birthday cake (it’s not like the birthday girl was going to sit there and eat by herself, whilst everyone watched!), and bringing dessert out sooner (we waited for half an hour and sadly had to cancel dessert since it was already a 2 hour lunch). But every dish was spectacular, much to our delight. Everyone was oooohing and aaaahing over the quality and taste of the food, and even a few of us regulars ‘discovered’ new awesome dishes to order next time. We ordered mostly seafood, all of which was super-fresh. At the end of our meal, a surprise mousse cake and a sparkler were presented to our lovely birthday girl! π
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GORGEOUS TL!

The view
“Fresh mangos blended with orange & crushed pineapple juice and a dash of grenadine”
A delicious fruity mocktail, and a fab lunchtime drink!
“SIZZLING SASHMI CARPACCIO
Scallop sashimi, sliced thinly, drizzled with an infused olive oil ”
Stunning. The scallops were meltingly soft and slippery with the most divine flavour!
“MUSHROOM MEDLEY TOBANYAKI
Over baked assortment of exotic mushrooms in a cream sauce”
Always a fave of mine, many declared they’d come back again just for this dish
“TUNA TATAKI KOBE JONES STYLE
Seared tuna with a California twist”
Delicious, but I would have preferred more tuna and less salad
“VOLCANO ROLL
Oven baked scallops layered on top of our California roll with sesame seeds and shallot sprinkle”
Everyone demanded we get this, it seems to always be a popular favourite. It’s creamy and intense,
yet light and tasty. A total sensory overload of awesome flavours.
“BEEF TATAKI
Seared Beef iced and served with tataki sauce”
Very very nice. Tender beef and I enjoyed the thin slivers of caramelised onion
“SPIDER ROLL
Crunchy soft shell crab, crab salad, avocado, cucumber with smelt roe sprinkle”
Another lovely sushi dish, but could do better with double the crab
“NUMBER ONE SPECIAL
Crab Salad with avocado wrapped in snapper and baked”
Little slivers of chilled crab complimented perfectly with creamy avocado and encased in a luscious creamy sauce
“SEAFOOD PAPAYA MOTOYAKI
A baked Papaya filled with seafood and vegetables with a motoyaki sauce”
Quite an odd combination of a warm sweet fruit with seafood/veggies
These Sapporo beer cans are made of steel, and soooooooooo hard to squeeze!
But the boys managed to easily :X
Wheeee sparklers!

Ohh everything looks mouth watering but a bit too expensive for my liking, haha!
Yeah it’s a bit pricey which is a shame.. if they were a bit cheaper it’ll give everyone an excuse to visit more often, hehe!

wow, that all looks soooo divine! especially the number one special!
i tried being a waitress once but i was sooo bad at being “proactive”. i was always staring out the window instead of helping the customers so needless to say, that didn’t last long π
Haha yeah, I think most people wouldn’t be very ‘switched on’ unless it was their cafe/restaurant or they felt a particular love for it or something..

number one special… oh dear lord.
i think i’ve just drown my keyboard in drool.
and a sapporo would be fantastic right now. that mild flavor is so fantastic with fish.
It’s really lovely, but $7 for EACH blob, so incredibly pricey… :X
yikes! no thank you!
Ohh, love the picture with the sparklers! So cute. π
Ya! It was really nice of them to give that complimentary dessert π
Love the pink Cartier pen! Sooooo pretty and girly =)
We figured it’ll make a good present ‘cos you normally wouldn’t buy something like that for yourself! Plus it’s sooo cute π

Love the food pics, but I love the Cartier pen. So classic.
I love it too. It makes a good present IMHO ‘cos it’s too $$ to buy for yourself! Me, I just use a cheap $1 pen that I bought, heheh
yum! the mushroom dish looks extremely appetizing!
Silly me should’ve taken a pic with some of the rice/mushrooms scooped out.. it was soooo nice :)~
