Erm, first of all, the name of the place above is actually wrong, obviously. It’s in Chinese and unfortunately my Chinese ain’t too hot. So I can’t read it π The 1st word is “red”.. the 2nd is some sort of animal I think? And the first 2 of the smaller words (on the right) is “China”. So decipher what you will from that.
Anyway, about 10 of us randomly ended up there after Church, for a quick lunch. They serve Chinese and Japanese food, at really reasonable prices. I opted for the Oyster Mee Swa and fell in love – it came with tons of juicy little oysters (at least 10+!) and the mee swa was creamy and yummy. Mee Swa is like a thin version of noodles.. erm, hard to describe, but it’s my favourite π You don’t find it in Australia, I believe.
Also had some Xiao Long Bao (I think the direct translation is “Small Dragon Dumpling”?) which, bizzarely, was awesome! I say bizzare, because it’s just a random little roadside place.. not somewhere that specialises in Xiao Long Bao or anything.. but they were just perfect – the ‘skin’ was thin and just chewy enough, and the meat inside was runny/broken instead of a chunk of meat like most places have. Plus the soup encased in the dumplings was so tasty. Yum π
We also ordered some Fried Dumplings (don’t know the proper name) that I initially wasn’t too fussed about since I don’t like fried dumplings. But when they came, my eyes lit up – they had this cool lacy fried bit! The fried bit was crisp and super-tasty, whilst the rest of the dumpling was warm and soft. Soooooooooo gooooood…..
Can anyone read this sign?
Oyster Mee Swa
Xiao Long Bao
Fried Dumplings
I love fried dumplings, haven’t had them in ages!
Me neither! I think I hadn’t had them in a year or something :O
I love steamed or fried dumplings. Wish I could have some for lunch!
They do make such a good lunch, since they’re not TOO filling. Too bad most places don’t sell them in smaller portions (like 4 pcs), they usually come in 10!
Even thought my stomach isnt feeling good right now but I still would love to eat those yummy food!! π mmm
It sucks being ill.. .feel better soon! *hugs*
not sure what you call fried dumplings in mandarin, but it’s War Tip in cantonese….
Yeah we thought they were that too, but the shop called them something different, maybe cos of the lacy fried bit that normal war tips don’t have?
the food looks good!
mm, you can find mee swa in chinese shops in aussie i think. or least i had some homecooked ones whilst in perth. π
mm, also try the steamed dumplings in Ding Tai Feng at wisma atrium. π

in cantonese its pronounced as hong fu (red tiger).

Ya it was really similar but they called it differently, maybe because of the lattice crisp at the bottom? It was near S11 at Bishan π
